Another one bowled at Lord's. Good batsmen don't get bowled, I was once told (by a not very good batsman).

@TheKairosPulse FLAPS!!!! It’s always the flaps. I like to get the window seat by the wing just to make sure they open the damn things.

@flat2020tips @JoeNorrisGYTO What a despicable individual you are with comments like that. I hope the next 2yo that crosses your path kicks you into the next parish.

Today’s the day the noise around racing gets loud but here’s what doesn’t get said 👇🏻 UK horse racing supports 130,000 jobs, contributes £5bn a year to the economy, & cares for over 20,000 horses in training - with entire communities, livelihoods & traditions built around it.

@DanMcC1990 Here a trainer who I shall not name demonstrating his "I care deeply about horse welfare" credentials.

There is far too much demonisation of horse racing, mostly from people who have zero understanding of it. The people involved care deeply about horse welfare, and the courses, such as my home one in Ayr, go the extra mile. I back British (and Scottish) horse racing!

The Grand National. Different fences. Fewer runners. Fewer fallers. Same thrilling spectacle. British racing never stands still when it comes to safety.

'Good Morning Everyone' 'Simply Marvellous' '2 for 22 / 2 for 222' Richie Benaud, with this calm voice brought so much knowledge and joy for the fans watching a cricket match. #OnThisDay in 2015, Richie Benaud, the voice of cricket, passed away.

@RobertACoe @Mendelpol No, they don't. This ignores the role counties play in giving @ECB_cricket resources to deliver @ECB_cricket revenue stream. They are in a symbiotic relationship and the counties need to wake up to the fact that they are being bribed with their own money.

@manwithlargehat @Mendelpol Agreed, but they need to be legitimate businesses at the same time, heaven forbid the ECB ever pulling the funding for the counties

Coverage of county cricket on YouTube and across socials is absolutely brilliant. Fair play to all the counties, and the County Championship generally. Making it accessible and engaging is absolutely the best way of getting people interested. No gimmicks. Just put it out there

@manwithlargehat @joeross00 @ECB_cricket Why would a successful non-hosting county like Somerset share their talent with weaker, but richer international hosting counties ? That would be madness. It's silly to call that 'parochial self-interest'

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket Going back to the original question... "How does any non-international hosting county compete long-term?" With talent sharing. But Somerset, one of the non-international hosting counties will, in their parochial self-interest, veto it. I give up.

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket Ask yourself but one question. Is it currently sustainable? If your answer is yes, let's all hold hands as we go over the cliff. If no, it needs reform. Radical reform. In line with closed systems around the world that DO work in a sustainable way.

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket Again, a closed system isn't a sustainable place for anyone unless it is sustainable for everyone. I'm not talking about sharing money. Share talent and the money largely takes care of itself. Surrey, my county, would also be a net loser. But the greater good must take priority.

@manwithlargehat @joeross00 @ECB_cricket Surely all you're doing is weakening the stronger teams? I can understand a system where there's more equality of ECB funding, but we shouldn't reward failure.

@Jezzatrainman How many bridges are there with vegetation growing like that? Roots getting into the mortar joints. A bit of precautionary vegetation removal wouldn't be amiss.

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket A closed system is not sustainable for anyone unless it is sustainable for everyone. Look at Premiership Rugby. Or British Ice Hockey. Parochial self-interest has brought us to here. It is unsustainable, writ large. It needs wholesale reform. And fast.

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket No, there is every incentive for counties to contribute to the development of good local players. But your definition of "successful counties" need to contribute to the weaker teams to keep the rest of the CLOSED system healthy.

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket In a closed system (like county cricket, NFL, MLB), until you have TALENT sharing, the strong will get stronger and the weak will get weaker. American sports recognised this decades ago and reformed the structure and culture to address it.

@simonhancock_uk @joeross00 @ECB_cricket You missed my point about centrally funded and co-ordinated development pathways, as in US sports (the college sports system). But yes, Derbyshire could get Rew. And Somerset could get Pope. And Leicestershire Baker... etc.
