@LeagueEyeTest Start of the season ALWAYS has overreach around discipline areas. In the past supporters have been ropable over lopsided penalty counts in early rounds. This is the collision between the arbitrator of rules & organisations that spend 4 months designing ways to bend those rules.

@Pleyndamour @johnnyddavidson @TheiPaperSport Broadcast $$ require leverage. Sky/Fox being told they can’t have NRL without significant increase to SL ££ is worth a shot I think. Without it there is no leverage for SL to make accelerated change. They might get there organically but that could take decades.

@mapsports @johnnyddavidson @TheiPaperSport Reality is that at £1.3m per club, the current broadcast deal doesn’t cover the cap. Just over 50% of it. If we want the sport to grow and attract more people, it needs more money and for clubs to be able to afford to spend more both on and off field.

Hierarchy in UK has had at least 7 goes at getting the broadcast deal right and have failed due to RL ranking in UK behind football, RU etc

@Pleyndamour @johnnyddavidson @TheiPaperSport 1% growth per year isn’t healthy. It doesn’t reflect movement for a major sport that has global reach. The NRL salary cap was in the low $2m back then. Now it’s $12-$13m. That reflects movement, don’t you think.

@mapsports @johnnyddavidson @TheiPaperSport That’s factually incorrect. The salary cap is now above £2m. Nearer £3m with exemptions. It was £1.65m back in the early 2000s.
