That time I thought I could not go any closer to grief without dying I went closer, and I did not die. Surely God had his hand in this, as well as friends. Mary Oliver, Heavy Three years today. Very sad. So grateful for friends, though, IRL and on here 😢💔❤️🙏

nobody will remember: - your salary - how “busy you were” - how many hours you worked people will remember: - your dance skills - your delicate compliments - how fortunate you've been as to be distinguished by the patronage of the Right Honourable Lady Catherine de Bourgh

I firmly believe that time spent reading books should not be subtracted from your lifespan. You should be able to step aside into Book Time, spend as long there as you like, then resume Ordinary Life Time at the same point you left. Clearly a superior arrangement.

Men who dismiss Jane Austen as “women’s fiction” are missing out. She’s one of our funniest and wisest writers. A thread of her best lines:

@dteeters I did spot a gentleman with something of the Elliot countenance. How fortunate we were not introduced

@markbrownlow If a Mr. Elliot passes you on the stairs, don't make eye contact! He's up to no good.

@Austen1stDrafts My wife wisely chose not to leap into my arms. She knows the book (and my limitations)
