@FireMrshlBill @legosavant123 @Wario64 I think the real winner will be the next neo they release. It’ll give them a chance to iron out hardware issues as well as upgrading to the a19 pro, which has 12GB of ram.

@mattysaurus @legosavant123 @Wario64 Especially since my kids are getting older, can leave it out as a family laptop and not as bad if they mess it up. Or can hand it down to one of them and get myself something else in a few years. Been using gaming PC + ipad for home, still use my 2014 MBPr sometimes.

@legosavant123 @Wario64 Joke’s on you, I got an iPad Air m2 when Walmart was clearing them out last year for $400. Though if I had the choice now I’d probably just buy the Neo. Not that I really need either tbh.

@BigPartyPack1 @Wario64 Not super comparable. 5s and 5c were in the same segment and 5c was demonstrably worse for only $100 less. For the same price as the iPad Air, you get an iPad Air with a a bigger screen and a keyboard. Similar performance to iPad Air m1/m2. Full fat desktop OS.

@legosavant123 @Wario64 iPad Air is by far the least popular model. Sales data from 2024 puts iPad Pro at top with near 50% of sales, followed by base iPad not far behind. Base iPad has a big market, especially since it hits ~$300 pretty often.

@mattysaurus @Wario64 can probably count the amount of people who would buy a higher tier ipad only for typing on your hand if any ipad is losing itll be base model but those + anyone too broke for MBA is way smaller than # of people who buy a win/chrome laptop with a pentium/celeron (aka ewaste)

@SnazzyLabs so I’m having trouble finding good opinions re:os’s 26… which are worth upgrading to? iOS26 has been fine since I got my 17, but I’m still on sequoia and iPadOS18. For those two, am I better off waiting for 27? Tahoe seems particularly not great.

@jayworks13 @Wario64 It’s not a 1:1 situation, but apple’s SOC makes 8GB less of a problem than on Windows. Obviously this laptop is made for more general use though and not pro work. I never had a problem with my M1 mini, but I did jump ship to M4 as soon as 16GB came standard.

@kurohouou @retrotink2 Okay, I’m using a Super NT and vert had to be enabled by default on this profile. Still, with BFI enabled it’s way more dim than the D series HDR BFI profile I typically use. Maybe my TV won’t benefit since it’s not as bright as newer models?

@Wario64 I would be all over this if it didn’t require expansion pass. Hard to believe this is the same company that gave us the NES Classic and SNES Classic for $60/$80. $100 for molded plastic with no electronics is wild.
