🔺Telegram founder Pavel Durov compares the lack of panic during the sinking of the Titanic with the current lack of awareness in Europe as citizens freedoms are stripped away: “I came here today to tell you-that we find ourselves in a similar predicament. In a similar situation. Our ship. Has already hit the iceberg. We have already started to sink. Without even realizing it. And I'm talking about the ship of our personal freedoms” Continuing giving examples of his personal experiences of fraud and corruption with Russia, the EU and France. Before moving onto Keir Starmer’s UK clampdown on social media: “Thousands of people are getting arrested every year in the United Kingdom for social media posts. You say somethingpolitically incorrect online, you may end up being fined or spend some time in prison in Germany”

BREAKING. Proficiat.
Keir Starmer@Keir_Starmer

We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back.

here's what will happen. - u16 ban passes, platforms must verify all ages - kids use VPNs, government bans VPNs - age verification infrastructure already exists, its scope gets broader, more invasive, more extreme - Online Safety Act forces backdoors into encrypted messaging, E2E encryption dies, gov can read everything you ever send - CBDC rolls out, your internet passport and financial passport become the same document - anonymous accounts posting "wrongthink" are now identifiable + prosecutable - the generation that grows up with this doesn't remember it being any other way - George Orwell was right about everything - it's over
CRG@MacroCRG

anonymous accounts demanding we end anonymous internet is a special kind of irony enforcing an age-restricted internet ban means they must verify ALL user's age. their age estimation plan will not work, it only ends in one outcome: a complete surveillance infrastructure. it's a honeypot. in Keir Starmer's hands. kids doomscrolling is a real concern, however the solution isn't handing Starmer a national social-media linked ID database - the cure is significantly more dangerous than the disease and there are better alternatives that don't infringe on our rights i want less state control in my life, not more privacy is a fundamental human right and it is being stripped from us little by little. i miss when crypto twitter used to be libertarian

I'm back in America My hotel room has: - AC that goes down to 18°C/64°F but my sensor shows it's 16°C/61°F! Ice cold means perfect sleep - $100 in free spending on anything + full minibar with beautiful products like Norwegian canned salmon with Sichuan peppers (!) - free water and sparkling water bottles every day, fresh fruit bowl - daily room cleaning without asking, finished before noon! - bathroom full of amenities + extra amenities you could request during booking like Marvis toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash ear plugs, sleeping mask - moderately fast wifi (to be honest) The top European hotel in Netherlands we were in last few weeks for same price: - AC did not go below 23°C/73°F, and to make it worse windows were locked (for eco reasons) - empty minibar (for eco) - no water bottles (the paper said use tap water like the locals for eco, guess what NL tap water is full of PFAS the gov just admitted) - no daily cleaning, we had to ask for it every day, and when we came back 4pm it still wasn't cleaned, every day (for eco) - strictly no amenities (for eco) - unusably slow wifi America is much more value now for your $ or € than most of Europe (And ofc Asia too)

Here's a snapshot of the biological insult from international travel. It takes your body over two weeks to fully recover. It's a big price tag. One international trip per quarter is a reasonable balance. Time to recover: > sleep duration: 2 days > grip strength: 5 days > mood: 1 wk > cortisol: 9 days > sleep quality: 2 wks > blood glucose: 2 wks

I’m starting a simple benchmark with Codex. The idea: take this medieval 2D platformer reference and rebuild the same playable prototype across 4 engines: - Unity - Phaser 3 - Godot - UE5 I’ll keep the same global prompt, only adapting it to each engine’s structure and logic. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s to see which engine gets from image to playable game the fastest. Who do you think wins?

Prices are critical information without an economy cannot function
Rothmus 🏴@Rothmus

As a young socialist, Hayek read Ludwig von Mises’ 1920 paper “Economic Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth.” Mises showed that socialist central planning isn’t merely inefficient, it’s impossible. Without private property and genuine market prices, planners lack any rational way to allocate scarce resources or determine real costs and needs. Even Oskar Lange, a leading socialist in the calculation debate, effectively conceded the point. While he promoted “market socialism” with trial-and-error pricing by a central board, real-world socialist planners in Eastern Europe quietly relied on world capitalist market prices as a guide. Without external free-market price signals, pure socialism would be economically blind and coordination would collapse. Mises went further, arguing that interventionism, the “middle way” of government meddling, is inherently unstable. Each intervention creates problems that invite more interventions, eventually leading to full socialization. Price controls cause shortages, subsidies distort production, and the cycle continues until the economy is fully planned. The lesson is clear. Rational economics requires genuine market prices emerging from voluntary exchange and private property. Half-measures don’t stabilize the system. They accelerate the drift into central planning. The Austrian School understood this decades before the collapse of the Soviet bloc proved it in practice.

The funniest maths in modern environmentalism. One almond requires 12 litres of irrigated water to produce. Peer-reviewed, ScienceDirect, 2017. A glass of almond milk contains roughly 50 of them. 600 litres of water before the carton is filled. The water comes from the San Joaquin Valley in California, which sits over one of the most over-extracted aquifers on earth. The valley floor has subsided by up to nine metres in places due to groundwater depletion. The carton is then refrigerated, sailed across the Atlantic, refrigerated again, lorried to a Manchester Tesco, and bought by someone who is concerned about the environmental impact of dairy. Meanwhile, in Cheshire. A British dairy cow drinks roughly 70 to 100 litres of water a day and produces around 28 litres of milk. That's about 3.5 litres of water per litre of milk. The water is rainwater that fell on her field or came from a local stream fed by the same rainwater. The rain was going to fall on the field whether the cow stood in it or not. 80% of her moisture intake comes from the grass itself, which is also rain. She converts the grass, free of charge, into a litre of milk containing seven times the protein and four times the calcium of almond milk, and shipped roughly 18 miles to the same Tesco. To recap. 600 litres of stolen aquifer, flown halfway round the world for nutritionally worthless beige water. Or 3.5 litres of rain that was already falling, converted by an animal you can pet, into actual food. The shopper picks the almond. She has been told this is the ethical position. The aquifer would like a word.

You conveniently forget to mention that this is because car licenses are stricktly limited (no additional new cars on the already congested roads), and therefore they have to be auctioned away in this way. I rather have the market efficiently price the luxury of driving a car (when there is the world's most perfect public transport system as a cheap alternative available), than living in a shithole like virtually every other SEA metropolis where traffic jams, noise and pollution are basically 24/7, all year round (and NO solution in sight to ever solve this problem).

"Non-technical teams are now shipping production code and many of our workflows are being automated" We have been saying this for years because Brian is a filthy shitcoiner and an enemy of Bitcoin, but now it is more urgent than ever: GET YOUR COINS OFF COINBASE. These are not serious people.
Brian Armstrong@brian_armstrong

This is an email I sent earlier today to all employees at Coinbase: Team, Today I’ve made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%. I want to walk you through why we're doing this now, what it means for those affected, and how this positions us for the future. Why now Two forces are converging at the same time. We need to be front footed to respond to both. First, the market. Coinbase is well-capitalized, has diversified revenue streams, and is well-positioned to weather any storm. Crypto is also on the verge of the next wave of adoption, with stablecoins, prediction markets, tokenization, and more taking off. However, our business is still volatile from quarter to quarter. While we've managed through that cyclicality many times before and come out stronger on the other side, we’re currently in a down market and need to adjust our cost structure now so that we emerge from this period leaner, faster, and more efficient for our next phase of growth. Second, AI is changing how we work. Over the past year, I’ve watched engineers use AI to ship in days what used to take a team weeks. Non-technical teams are now shipping production code and many of our workflows are being automated. The pace of what's possible with a small, focused team has changed dramatically, and it's accelerating every day. All of this has led us to an inflection point, not just for Coinbase, but for every company. The biggest risk now is not taking action. We are adjusting early and deliberately to rebuild Coinbase to be lean, fast, and AI-native. We need to return to the speed and focus of our startup founding, with AI at our core. What this means To get there, we are not just reducing headcount and cutting costs, we’re fundamentally changing how we operate: rebuilding Coinbase as an intelligence, with humans around the edge aligning it. What does this mean in practice? - Fewer layers, faster decisions: We are flattening our org structure to 5 layers max below CEO/COO. Layers slow things down and create coordination tax. The future is small, high context teams that can move quickly. Leaders will own much more, with as many as 15+ direct reports. Fewer layers also means a leaner cost structure that is built to perform through all market cycles. - No pure managers: Every leader at Coinbase must also be a strong and active individual contributor. Managers should be like player-coaches, getting their hands dirty alongside their teams. - AI-native pods: We’ll be concentrating around AI-native talent who can manage fleets of agents to drive outsized impact. We’ll also be experimenting with reduced pod sizes, including “one person teams” with engineers, designers, and product managers all in one role. In short: AI is bringing a profound shift in how companies operate, and we’re reshaping Coinbase to lead in this new era. This is a new way of working, and we need to leverage AI across every facet of our jobs. To those who are affected I know there are real people behind these decisions — talented colleagues who have poured themselves into this company and our mission. To those of you who will be leaving: thank you. You’ve helped build Coinbase into what it is today, and I am sincerely grateful for everything you've done. All impacted team members will receive an email to their personal account in the next hour with more information, and an invitation to meet with an HRBP and a senior leader in your organization. Coinbase system access has been removed today. I know this feels sudden and harsh, but it is the only responsible choice given our duty to protect customer information. To those affected, we will be providing a comprehensive package to support you through this transition. US employees will receive a minimum of 16 weeks base pay (plus 2 weeks per year worked), their next equity vest, and 6 months of COBRA. Employees on a work visa will get extra transition support. Those outside of the US will receive similar support, based on local factors and subject to any consultation requirements. Coinbase prides itself on talent density. Our employees are among the most talented people in the world, and I have no doubt that your skills and experience will be highly sought after as you pursue your next chapters. How we move forward To the team that is staying, I know this is a difficult day. We’re saying goodbye to colleagues and friends you've been in the trenches with. But here’s what I want you to know as we move forward together: Over the past 13 years, we have weathered four crypto winters, gone public, and built the most trusted platform in our industry. We’ve made it this far by making hard decisions and by always staying focused on our mission. This time will be no different – nothing has changed about the long term outlook of our company or industry. And most importantly, our mission has never been more important for the world. Increasing economic freedom requires a new financial system, and we’re building it. The Coinbase that emerges from this will be more capable than ever to achieve our mission. Brian
