Update from Maya's mother: For a quick version of updates.. The "highlights" Maya is out of ICU.. she's aware. She is seemingly stable. Are we out of the woods? Maybe.... Maya is making strong strides that far beyond exceed all and any expectations. With the hard hitting emotional turmoil that exists in uncertainty, removed, we can breath a bit. Right(?) With the looming fear of darkness subsiding, we can finally consider life and what it may look like. I grieve a child, while I look her in the eye.. I grieve the person she knew herself to be. I grieve the girl who never knew the words "i cant". Just to be clear, im so happy she is with us. My only hope for her, is that, she can find peace and love in her life. My only want for her, is that she continues to work for life, and finds purpose in it. And isn't left to live a life confined to a body that wont work, with nothing but the memories of the fierce being she was to keep her up at night. Such an existence, I feel, would be far worse then the infinite certainty of loss. This existence would be the life I fought, and argued for her... The stillness of stability.. she is out of icu.. the waters are still. We wait in purgatory for the stars to line up, and life starts to feel like... life again. After many nights of research, questioning, and fear of the unknown, we decided to say yes to an opportunity for an aggressive approach to her rehabilitation through privatized health care.. We are excited. Aswell as nervous, away from family and resources, an opportunity we couldn't refuse. We wait for all the moving parts to line up and create a path to pursue. until then, we live somewhere in the middle. -Dahlia, my Darling. She has lost, litterally everything. With her best friend moving away at the start of the year, she was already struggling with her sense of self. I've learned that she find peace and identity In being led. Makes sense, maya did everything with and for her. Dahlia was never left to make decisions or act independently. That was her safety. Now with out friends, a solid home, and scared of schools. She is put in a place where she is forced to watch her fearless leader lay incapacitated... shes not ok, and it shows. My hope is when we land in LA we will be able to build routine and relationships, that will hopefully feel normal(ish)? Until then, her and I stay in airbnbs, so she can have a room, and we can have breakfast together.. right now, this feels like the best i can do for her. A new chapter starts soon and we welcome it. Mayas sense of awareness is becoming better. Dahlia laid on her stomach and she put her hand on Dahlia... it was a beautiful moment
