At lunch today in Washington DC with Professor @mivanova , an expert in international environmental governance and Director @Northeastern School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs. On the menu: public policy and governance education, Africa, and Northeastern University’s rise in rankings, impact, and prestige. We coined a perfectly oxymoronic phrase, “positive grudge”, agreeing that Africa should have a chip on its shoulder about colonialism and slavery and let that drive a new global strategic intent for the continent’s rise in the world. The same way China has held a positive grudge against the west for historical humiliations such as losing the Opium Wars in the early 19th century and ceding Hong Kong to Great Britain as a fallout, but today is a global power of far more significance in geopolitics and geo-economics than Britain. Great conversations!
