@jasonlk @wquist I did this for some GPs at AngelList - crystallizing carry allows the LP and GP to make separate decisions about selling/holding. Mostly in LP secondaries where the buyer wanted 0% carry and LP was open to discount but GP wanted to hold. Can be done in most fund docs w/some work
English

@wquist I honestly have no idea how this works but it would make a lot of sense
Personally — I would love to distribute some winners to LPs but personally get to keep my carry as stock and go longer myself
English

We are going to see more GPs distribute private stock to LPs.
And those LPs will hire folks to help manage the liquidity.
And everyone forget that this is exactly how it worked in the 70s, 80s, 90s - just with less liquidity and more fees cause back then we just used the public markets.
This is the same story for growth capital too…

@ericbahn I wait 5-6 min. I ended up building this into @quillmeetings as an auto reminder actually if no one says anything in the first 5 minutes of the meeting 😁
English

Aight, I'm curious now--what is your grace period for waiting on someone on a Zoom before you log off? Is 10 min too generous?
Eric Bahn 💛@ericbahn
My etiquette rule when someone is ghosting me on a Zoom call. Wait 10 min, then log off. No need to bother following up with that person who ghosted you. Enjoy time back!

Love that ChatGPT can now generate creative and practical swag ideas for @quillmeetings just from our landing page. LMK if you'd like either of these.

@MIT This is great news - I've always been grateful for the financial aid I had access to as an undergrad at MIT. Talent is not distributed by wealth, so keeping great education affordable will be life changing to many.
English

Undergraduates with family income below $200,000 can expect to attend MIT tuition-free starting in 2025: Newly expanded financial aid will cover tuition costs for admitted students from 80 percent of U.S. families. mitsha.re/Wg8550UbkFc

@cyantist Watched this last week :) Still entertained after so many years
English

Now watching Gladiator. It rose to the top of the list so I figured I had to. Pretty good and hard to believe I’ve never seen it.
Are you not entertained?!
Cyan Banister@cyantist
The first movie I watched was Lawrence of Arabia. It was near the top in mentions and boy was he a cocky SOB. Ok ok!! I AM exceptional. Here’s the list of movies people recommended and I haven’t completely de-duped them. Let me know what movies are missing if this was a must see list for humanity. cyantist.notion.site/Movies-d978c8a…

@AntipenkoL3792 @nivi @DavidDeutschOxf Weather prediction is a different sort of system than consciousness within a universe, IMO. Weather prediction techniques are more monte carlo-esque. But maybe that's what Deutsch is comparing to with multiverse theory, ie. in which % of universes would I write this comment in...
English

@mpdaugherty @nivi > small changes in inputs result in large changes in outputs
@DavidDeutschOxf told this is wrong. Chaos theory is wrong. Small∆i=>Small∆output. Big∆i=>big∆output. Humans will be able to predict weather very good.

People, including me, have said that the brain is a computer.
In short, if the brain follows the laws of quantum physics, it can be simulated on a computer.
But that means the brain will always give the same output for a given input. It also means that knowledge creation is predetermined.
I’m doubtful of both of those conclusions, so I reckon there’s an error somewhere above.
English

@nivi I'm not super familiar with David Deutsch, but my understanding is that quantization is at the Planck level; very different than even micro-scale inputs. What's the difference between an uncountable set of states and an analog system? The universe is ~10^61 Planck eras old...
English
@mpdaugherty As I understand from David Deutsch, this butterfly effect idea is generally not correct in the real world because everything is quantized so it absorbs the input variations.

@IndieHackers I could see selling a limited number as an alternative to equity fundraising, but I wouldn't do it once the business is up and running. They'll be a liability to handle if you ever exit. Also would want to be really confident in cost model...
