Environment. Equality. Progress. Plus other observations of lower value. Gin lover, dessert ambivalent. all these opinions are only mine.

words escape me, I thought this was a table but someone manually created something in a word doc that looks like a table but is just coloured words and tabs/spaces?

@JamColley One of the greatest days of my life was paying an $11 parking meter with 110 x 10c coins. Old school meter as the modern ones say “Too many coins” and reject them all!

@peterrhague The Tripods Trilogy by John Christopher. His other books are also excellent, were my introduction to sci-fi.

Is there a science fiction equivalent of Harry Potter? My ten year old is very keen on sci fi but a lot of the classics I’d recommend are a bit above his reading level.

@robfindlay Yeah it’s insane and I think it’s either do it yourself or buy a package, unless you are paying for bus/first and a curated experience

Any freelance travel agents out there? Would pay a small/capped fee over a hazy, bloated margin on bookings for end to end service

@robfindlay Having to communicate with airlines being so unreliable means there is just no point in her doing it. 2/2

@robfindlay Hey Rob I had a long chat with my previous agent, friend of a friend - she said she just can’t do travel bookings anymore unless it’s business / first and whole of trip. Was really insightful - no more margin for agents in economy and the number of changes she has been 1/2

Watched 4 minutes of Home and Away today and realized these sort of shows will be the first to be replaced by generative AI. Endless microplots.

@SwiftOnSecurity I saw Violin demo 1m IOPS in 5RU in 2011 or so, and knew it was the end of spinning disk. They couldn’t saturate it with the 8+ 16Gb FC at the time. It had about 3 possible customers in Australia actually able to use 500k+ IOPS - media, tax office and security services.

Something recent entrants to IT, may not understand: Computers were multiple levels of magnitude slower just a short time ago. You could not pay to buy a SAN with the speed of your computer's SSD. That's when all this server clustering and distribution culturally ingrained itself

Bard fails the rap battle test (vs GPT-4's wordsmithing). Marcus Aurelius vs Tyrion Lannister, single shot.
