Super thrilled to have the 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖 installation of the 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐱 𝐗𝐍-𝟗𝟏𝟎𝟎™ 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 at Dr. Kalebi Labs (DKL), that is integrated to a Total Lab Automation (TLA) allowing combination of Haematology with Immunoassay and Chemistry analyzer platforms into one connected pre-analytical and analytical system for highest efficiency, fast turn-round-time of lab results and quality lab service provision. The unpacking, assembly and installation of the Sysmex @SysmexJP XN-9100 fully automated Haematology System which is being integrated with the Roche @Roche TLA at DKL is currently ongoing through the weekend in our local homegrown DKL ultramodern state-of-the-art and highly advanced innovative, distributive and disruptive greenfield central referral lab in Upper Hill Hospital Road in Kibra Sub-county. Alhamdulillah 🤲🏾 DKL was earlier this week on 3-9-2024 registered and licensed by KMLTTB as the first private lab in Kenya under the highest Class G National and International Clinical Diagnostic and Research Laboratory with the cutting-edge test platforms being lined up at DKL to cover all clinical pathology lab disciplines and a comprehensive list of lab tests that will be locally available to patients and their health providers in the country and the region. This first and only-of-its-kind fully automated Haematology Sysmex XN-9100 System at DKL connected to the TLA is designed to achieve decreased TAT and optimized labor utilization while maintaining high quality patient results through automatic workload balancing, hands-free rerun/reflex testing and fully automated reflexive slide preparation. All these will in turn enable equitable lab services with improved availability, accessibility and acceptability of quality lab tests in the country and the region. The components of the XN-9100 fully automated Haematology system that are integrated to the TLA at DKL include: ☑️ The standard XN-10 CBC analyzer ☑️ The new upgraded XN-20 CBC analyzer, which is complementary to the XN-10 - offering an additional analysis channel for white precursor cell (WPC) that provides improved differentiation of abnormal WBC populations ☑️ PLT-F (fluorescent platelet) discrete testing channel ☑️ Reticulocyte channel ☑️ Slidemaker-stainer (SP-50) ☑️ Cell image analyzer (DI-60) ☑️ Body fluid mode ☑️ Tube sorter ☑️ Sample/rack management modules with TLA connectivity In addition to the XN-9100 system components, the Sysmex team are installing the XN-31 automated platform for malaria diagnosis which offers AI-powered direct detection of the malaria parasite with quantification of parasitaemia with complementary measurement of complete blood count as well as rapid identification of the Plasmodia species, all done within a few minutes with high throughput of up-to 60 samples per hour. Sysmex are also installing the modular Sysmex UN-Series Automated Urinalysis Solution that is customized for DKL workflow, including an automated urine chemistry analyzer combined with fluorescent flow cytometry and digital image analysis for AI-enabled automated urine microscopy that gives results for urine chemistry and urine microscopy in seconds rather than minutes/hours. The Sysmex team of engineers doing the XN-9100 installations are led by Huseyin Fiiz and Taskin Ergunce from Turkey 🇹🇷 Lloyd Mukunza from South Africa 🇿🇦 together with Nicholas Muturi and Hezekiah Onyango based Kenya 🇰🇪 These Sysmex installations are expected to be completed within the coming week as well as user trainings for our DKL lab technical team who will thereafter undertake the requisite test methods verification plus quality EQA checks before we can roll out our services targeting soft go-live by end of September 2024 insha’Allah.

Our very first lab analyser to be delivered and unpacked this week is the Roche cobas® 5800 System, which was today successfully assembled by the wonderful team of Martin Maina and Michael Ngala the young biomedical engineer and application specialists from Roche Diagnostics respectively who are now proceeding with its installation ahead of verification protocol and commissioning by our molecular lab team. We are proud to note from the @Roche team that this is also the very first cobas® 5800 System to ever be delivered and installed in Kenya coming from Roche Diagnostics, thus our lab is positioned to be the first lab to roll out the use of this groundbreaking molecular/PCR testing platform. The unit delivered is one of two identical cobas 5800 units that are being installed and tailored for our new start-up greenfield central referral lab in Upper Hill Kibra Sub-county that is geared to serve the whole of Kenya and the Eastern Africa region for a wide range of molecular PcR tests including HPV, HIV, HCV, HBV and TB testing with less than 4 hours turn-around-time for delivery of results on the same day the samples are delivered at the lab. The CE marked ultramodern cobas 5800 System is a fully automated walk-away high-throughput continuous loading analyser with super-efficient workflow which has superseded and replaced the Roche CAP/CTM platform that was popular for for HIV PCR and cobas 4800 platform for HPV PCR test. The cobas 5800 is designed for accessible consolidation, integration and standardization of a wide assay menu of the PCR/NAAT molecular tests. Some of the PCR tests that we shall be performing onsite on the cobas 5800 in our new lab from the get-go with a turn-around-time of a few hours on the same dayinclude: ✔️ HPV PCR test that’s clinically validated, FDA-approved and WHO prequalified for detection of high-risk HPV type 16, 18 and 12 other genotypes ✔️ HIV Viral Load (Quantitative PCR) also FDA-approved ✔️ HIV 1 & 2 Qualitative DNA test ✔️ Hepatitis C (HCV) Viral Load ✔️Hepatitis B (HBV) Viral Load ✔️ Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) qualitative PCR with RIF/INH resistance mutations The cobas 5800 analyzer also has additional PCR tests on its assay menu including sexual health infections CT/NG and TV/MG, transplant infections BKV, CMV and EBV, as well as other infections that we shall consider introducing asonsite testing for special projects and clients. With the multiple units of the cobas 5800 in our innovative, distributive and disruptive new lab, we are setting up to be the leading ultramodern diagnostic lab in the country capable of insha’Allah serving at high capacity with quick turnaround and lower pricing for the benefit of patients and their healthcare providers across Kenya and the region.
