@Race2Extinct Fellow Selway enthusiast and trail volunteer here. I can relate to your comments about trails disappearing. Yeah, stock animals do a lot of damage and only benefit a tiny percentage of the population.

My Selway-Bitterroot article just made Google News. Wilderness doesn’t collapse all at once. It unravels quietly — invasive plants spread, salmon vanish, and ecosystems that still look intact stop functioning. The Selway is further along that path than most people realize.

My wife and I made our weekly shopping trip to the "big" city today. This is becoming more of a chore than it should. After about 6 stops, we just decided the last two can wait till later, and went home.

@Ampersand48 I read somewhere that a plurality of Idaho County residents are on Social Security. But of those who are employed, most work for the gummint. So basically we are a socialized welfare state.

Central Idaho has a production economy where labor adds value to our natural resources. In my 30 years dealing with local business, a reliable workforce is the most important part of a businesses success. The employees here are dedicated to their jobs, for generations.

@matthewstoller @Rory_Johnston Pipelines are easily bombed. It's not just oil, it's also fertilizer and other petrochemicals. Bottom line: peace is required for reliable commerce.

@Rory_Johnston Curious. Let's say Iran establishes a toll booth at Hormuz. Is it possible to build a full pipeline network to get around it? How long would it take to do that?

@keithdorejel The U.S. could not even defeat Yemen and is getting its ass kicked by Iran. We would have never, under any circumstances, have had a prayer against China. But hey, we can kick some banana republic ass.

@moorehn They're a monopoly. They buy out their competitors and buy shelf space in grocery stores. Then jack up their prices.

I legitimately do not understand why a bag of potato chips is now $5. They cost almost nothing to produce, package and market

If you zoom out from Twitter, Trump has a pretty good setup for flexibility and dismount. Strategic ambiguity (no definite objective articulated), plus no boots on the ground, plus a shiny object (Khameini killed).

@matthewstoller Lots of candidates run on bringing our troops home. It's called "lying."

Someone should run on the U.S. closing all our middle east bases and bringing all our troops home. We don't need the oil. It's not our problem.

@MarcoCraveiro @nntaleb K, but Presidents have been starting wars without Congressional authorization, so ... the mandatory military service should extend to the President, his cabinet, and his advisors. If the Prez is really commander-in-chief, let him lead from the front like George Washington.

@DanMKervick I used to follow him but his Epstein take was the final straw. Tracey's schtick has always been contrarianism, so no surprise that he has a contrary take on Epstein. But that reveals the limitation of a world view based on contrarianism.

I don’t follow or keep up with Michael Tracey. So for those who do: why is he doing what he’s doing? It seems rather goofy.

⁉️ Are Aircraft Carriers Obsolete Relics? I assert they are in the context of a major-power war. Many of my respected colleagues, including @witte_sergei & @ArmchairW, seem to disagree. War against Iran may not decisively answer the question. War against Russia or China will.
Big Serge ☦️🇺🇸🇷🇺@witte_sergei

People are very quick to announce the death of the aircraft carrier, but it’s still the premiere platform for massing strike power for both kinetic and intimidative purposes. Until one gets sunk, this is the world we live in.

@keithdorejel Chomsky had already lost me after he remarried and jumped on the vote-blue-no-matter-who ship. 2nd wife also seems to figure prominently in Epstein relationship.

@matthewstoller In fairness, cattle ranchers are millionaires and less than 1% of the population. The bigger picture is the U.S. no longer can feed itself due to growing population and climate change.

@matthewstoller This is true, broadly speaking. But I'd focus on middle men who add no value, & breaking up monopolies.

There is no way to make things more affordable without reducing corporate profits. Lower prices require lower profits.
