@shadihamid This is the US. We’re a melting pot. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to be here. Plenty of other countries where you can live like you want culturally.

Should a minority community's right to be in America depend on their willingness to converge with the cultural mainstream? No, it shouldn't depend on that. It shouldn't depend on anything. We're all Americans, after all.

@MTomczak @theWokeholics @joncoopertweets @iamswoboda Yes…we voted for an independent committee. Why do you think you should override that? Because you are power-hungry Democrats who want to put VA under Fairfax’s rule and your Somali-style corruption kickbacks with one party rule. Vote NO to the gerrymander.

@theWokeholics @joncoopertweets @iamswoboda Dog, republicans invented gerrymandering. VA was already under an independent re-districting committee. Texas is an example of purely political gerrymandering . Republicans straight up love gerrymandering, and have since the practice started.

Virginia has a special election on April 21. If the referendum is approved, Virginia will temporarily redraw its congressional map to fight back against GOP gerrymandering in TX, FL, MO and NC that is stealing House seats. VOTE YES to fight back! 👊 #StopTrumpVoteYesVA

At a certain point you simply have to say to the libertarians "no, wrong." An orphaned baby does in fact have the human right not to starve to death in the street. Any form of society that can't guarantee that right is bad.

Today’s Northern Virginia campaign kickoff for @MarkWarnerVA made it clear: Virginians are fed up with the chaos coming out of Washington and fired up for this year’s midterm elections. We’re fortunate to have him fighting for us in the U.S. Senate—and we’re ready to send him back this November.

@evanwch @TheStroBro There’s nothing wrong with putting them in expert care that has more knowledge and experience than a family member. Economy of scale makes institutionalization the best option.

@TheStroBro You’re arguing to institutionalize young children away from their parents who want to care for them and people with ALS, people who got into accidents and lost their ability to walk. You’re a disgusting piece of shit

Because the alternative is to institutionalize severely disabled people. This keeps them with their family members For example, I know someone who has a young disabled son who has to sleep on a ventilator each night to stay alive and this program allows him to live with his family instead of hours away in a care facility If this program weren’t available, she would have to work 40 hours a week to institutionalize him. Because of it, she is able to provide him 24-7 care instead of a stranger

EXCLUSIVE: California spends $30 billion per year paying 800,000 people to cook, clean, shop, and watch television with family members and others. This "in-home care" program operates mostly on the honor system—and loses $6 to $12 billion a year to fraud. city-journal.org/article/califo…

Last week, I was at a friend's birthday gathering at a crowded bar in D.C. and I somehow wound up in conversation with a small group of people about the war in Iran. One of them fully supported the war and fully supported Trump. I politely sipped my drink and waited for the convo to move on. I didn't really want to talk about this during what was meant to be a laidback evening. But then he said this: "The death toll has been surprisingly low for our military." I asked him: "How do you mean?" "Well, we've had a small number of troops killed, less than ten." "Thirteen," I said. "Thirteen troops have been killed in combat." "Right," he said. "That's a surprisingly low number. We've had a low fatality rate." And, you know, I just couldn't let that go. I couldn't. "Surprisingly low?" He said: "Yeah, it could be much worse. We could have lost a lot more soldiers at this point." I asked him: "Can you name any of the service members who were killed?" "What?" "Thirteen service members have been killed. Do you know any of their names?" There was this long, awkward pause. And then he said: "I know some of their names have been published." I said: "All of their names have been published. The last KIA was a few weeks ago. Do you know any of their names?" Another long pause and then finally: "No, I don't." Let me offer some friendly advice for anyone like this gentleman who is tempted to say this was a "surprisingly low" number of service members killed. Don't make this observation if it's just a number to you. Every one of these service members had loved ones, friends, a life back home. Some of them had kids. Some of them had mortgages and front lawns to mow. Some of them had grills in their backyard they would have been using for parties with people they loved this summer. Now they're gone, and their families and friends are always going to feel that loss. You shouldn't be saying something like "surprisingly low" in the first place but especially when you don't know any of their names. If U.S. military fatalities are "surprisingly low," it shouldn't take you any time at all to learn their names. Friendly advice.
