casual reminder to anyone who happens to see this -- please take breaks from your bubble. if you spend loads of time only hearing out views and takes from one side on issues, consider genuinely hearing out other sides. really try to grapple with why they feel what they feel./

@JohnnyBazel u claim this as imagined or so niche as to barely matter, but no, it's real. our society is steeped in colorism & anti-blackness that makes ppl know little, care little, or blot out black presence. there's no harm in giving a lil reminder "hey persona's OST has some black roots"

@JohnnyBazel u seem to think anti-blackness is rather niche; in reality it's very common. dedicated racists r... too common, but not THAT common. anti-blackness tho? its tendrils are all over. it's more than just "a few weebs" who know or care oddly little of black ppl's contributions

@JohnnyBazel let me rephrase: loads of ppl be thrilled by whatever jp thing that takes inspiration from black ppl all while either being [not necessarily racist but ignorant of] or [intentionally ignoring (from racism)] that they partially have black ppl to thank for that thing they enjoy

@nicelightyeah Racists will ignore anything that doesnt support their worldview they arent rational actors and obviously dont make up a large portion of any fanbase. Youre arguing with the idea of a guy that is at best a vocal minority even if we stretch it in comparison to everybody else

@JohnnyBazel @prkhalingg @stupidegyptian @RoxanneTonight_ you'd be surprised by how many ppl u tell that e.g. city pop takes some inspiration from black american artists and they r surprised or even outright reject the idea. or e.g. how black fashion influenced a character design they like. they stay tryna push black ppl out the picture

@JohnnyBazel @prkhalingg @stupidegyptian @RoxanneTonight_ no it isn't. loads of ppl out here be thrilled by whatever jp game/manga/show that takes inspiration from black ppl all while being open anti-black racists and either being ignorant of or intentionally ignoring that they partially have black ppl to thank for that thing they enjoy

@mike94474486 @buffetbread yeah it's not the 1st black girl hero... but it is also only the 2nd. the ~5th black hero in a 50-count roster. the "obsession" w/ having black characters wouldnt exist if our colorist/racist society wasn't obsessed w/ putting down black people. should seek to solve that first.

@buffetbread No one is mad, it’s just weird tbh to be obsessed with someone just because of their skin color. Especially in a game as diverse as OW. If it were the first I could see the hype, but this very much is not.

@Yene_rmoss @volskayadottxt @GladionZ no worries, I know a lot of ppl react with hostility when people confuse the two for somewhat fair frustration of their own, but I get that a lot of ppl just genuinely don't know which is fair too

@nicelightyeah @volskayadottxt @GladionZ Oh thanks i get it, it depends more of the background they come from right? Sorry for my lack of knowledge, from where I'm from in Spain we always assume that even if you're brown you're still black, but thanks for the explanation i appreciate it 🫶🏻

@Yene_rmoss @volskayadottxt @GladionZ it's a mix of appearance, ancestry, self-identification and culture. some people in South America are brown, some are black, some are both. everything we can see/know on Lucio would make him to be afro-brazilian while Illari as an indigenous peruvian would be considered brown

@Yene_rmoss @volskayadottxt @GladionZ Illari would be considered brown. The only black heroes we have are Lucio, Doom, Baptiste and Sojourn. Culturally we could count Orisa but she's not a human.

@Sereph9 but they r kinda on to something at the same time. sex IS awesome. but even in a time of higher openness n awareness on sex positivity, a lot of young ppl now also feel alienated, undesirable, fearful of judgement, etc... so sex happens less, w/ some "toxic" reasons in the mix

@Sereph9 i think the logic is: w/ arousal/sex being of the most enjoyable things for the vast majority of ppl, and w/ ppl gaining a craving for it in their teens, "what's stopped u from experiencing it already?" which is irksome when ur still a virgin or just don't value it that highly.

I had a doctor ask me at like 23 if I was sexually active, I said no, she asked me if I had ever had sex (which was unnecessary info and felt like an overstep to me) and I said no. And she was BEWILDERED. Asked me “oh waiting on the right person?” I was like uhm. No. Just haven’t
silei@sileisce

i'm early genz (28) and even when i was a kid these convos were happening. at 15 i had an adult wondering why i wasn't 'normal' and having sex. sex positive spaces will call you a prude and puritan for not having sex because they think it's a necessity and put it on a pedestal

@Bnnuybinch @pangolin_87 @clumsiest_sys there ARE many fair criticisms of patriarchy & modern masculinity & etc.. there's room for em to be shared. trying to condense it down into "men are bad" isnt it tho. it might feel good to type but it's probs genuinely doing more harm than good in the grand scheme of things

@Bnnuybinch @pangolin_87 @clumsiest_sys bc it could never feel great to have "[group ur a part of by intrinsic qualities] are inherently bad" be a prominent sentiment. it's not just "bad" men who'd be bothered by it, there's plenty relatively innocent guys not in great mental health or whatever who find it off-putting

when i say i hate men, i mean it in a similar way to ACAB. do i think every man as a person is awful? no, obviously. do i hate the sociological systems that are used to raise them & perpetuate harm? fuck yes i do. i hate men as a social group, not as people

@BombsAh0y then that group of bigots decided to hop in, trying to justify their shit with "well if 'you all' didn't call it racist this wouldn't have happened". meanwhile, again, a handful. plus when season 1 was airing the fandom was chill as fuck, I saw plenty liberal&leftists praising it

@BombsAh0y if u let those idiots tell the story they go "well it's actually the left's fault that that happened". in reality some on the left (fairly) commented on how the demons being an "inherently evil race" could feed into racist's delights, & a handful deemed the series itself racist

it's nothing new on this hell-site, of course. worsened more by the financial incentive to engagement baiting that fuels the accounts of bigots. worsened more still by the owner and his people incessantly spreading the rhetoric. actively making the world a much worse place. dumb.

replies to posts like this serve as a reminder to how mind-numbing anti-blackness can be all the inane bullshit in the replies is dismissable/counterable, but what's the point of arguing with them when they won't cede at all AND it just conjures 5 more inane bullshit replies?

@_PersonMcHuman_ as a fellow critic: tbf if u look at ALL including NPCs in Natlan, theres a decent amnt of brwn/blck ppl. but ofc playable chars r who every1 cares about, n all we got was Iansan & Ifa. we probs not gettin any more darker skin characters for the rest of the game either. it's sad

@MonricOW @salv102 @vickydarkarisen the only black heroes are lucio, doom, bap, soj. 4/50. I guess orisa can kinda count, *maybe* ramattra too, but we're talking humans. those others would be considered brown, not black. might be confusing if ur unfamiliar but that's how it is

@bcd323 @Kadamitas @NeokoAKtion @RimaEvenstar perhaps a portion of the crowd are less-so thorough advocates and more-so just involved to merely virtue signal, sure. my above two tweets still hold tho. there's real bigotry and lack of representation in the mix, and and many ppl do genuinely care about addressing it

Uma Musume recently added Black characters as part of an American-themed update, and it has sparked a lot of debate. Japanese fans have voiced frustration over Western audiences bringing this kind of controversy into their games and media. Some fans feel the inclusion was unnecessary or politically motivated, particularly given how minor the characters' roles are. Others disagree, arguing the designs are based on real horse grooming traditions and make sense within the American theme. This is far from the first time an anime or game has been caught up in this kind of debate, and many Japanese fans are simply tired of the in-fighting getting in the way of their enjoyment.
