So let’s get this straight: they fired six useless rockets to avenge Khamenei, only to end up, a month later, accepting a worse ceasefire deal than the one they had in 2024. And during that month of “fighting” - setting aside the death and destruction across Lebanon - they also enabled Israel to deepen its presence in the South, including taking near-total control of Bint Jbeil, and forced the LAF to withdraw, leaving the remaining Christian border villages cut off from the rest of the country. Those villages will now inevitably be pulled into Israel’s economic orbit. Great work, boys. Truly Ben-Gvir’s best soldiers 👍
Elizabeth Tsurkov@LizHurra

Senior Israeli source to Israeli Army Radio: Nabih Berri played a crucial role in securing the ceasefire deal. He is the one who managed to ensure that that Hezbollah abide by the deal, although the negotiations were conducted between the US, the Lebanese state and Israel. This reinforces the observed reality on the ground - Hezbollah accepted a ceasefire deal substantially worse than the 2024 deal to end that war, despite its claims to victory. The 2026 deal allows Israel to remain in the occupied territories, deeper into Lebanon than the 2024 line, and guarantees that "Israel shall preserve its right to take all necessary measures in self-defense, at any time, against planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks." The 2024 ceasefire deal did not guarantee this.

Hirayama sells his labour-power & owns little, yet carves out pockets of resistance to alienation through aesthetic attention (music, books, trees) that defies subsumption by capital. Guy who thinks the proletariat's task is 'redistribution' is no authority on Marxist analysis.

Good, if it includes clear, actionable provisions for 1) the full disarmament of Hezbollah and 2) Israel’s complete withdrawal from the South, restoring it to a sovereign Lebanese state. Otherwise, it is performative and will prove to be pointless in the long term. Just a brief respite before the next round of the forever war. (I fear that 1 will be much harder than 2, and may ultimately prevent us from achieving 2, which would be a great shame.)

What are the Lebanese takes, in their diversity of viewpoints, on the Israel-Lebanon-US meeting? I’ve read what might be called the pro-Israel views. And a few of the more critical views that are negative. But haven’t seen many Lebanese views?

Palestinians massacred us after we took them as refugees. Syrians invaded us with 0 provocation from our part. Israelis replied to attacks from our land by invading us 3 times. Why are israelis our sworn enemy and the other 2 not brothers that we must open wars and die for?

When colonialism was in fashion, they claimed that they were colonisers creating a European outpost in the Middle East. Now anti-colonialism is in fashion, and they claim that they're anti-colonial, indigenous power project.

BIG: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Syria: Israel’s postponed policies toward Syria carry certain risks. Because of the ongoing war in Iran, Israel may not be taking certain steps right now, but that does not mean it will not do so later. It may simply not be their priority at the moment. That does not mean it will not become a priority later, when the time comes. For now, our Syrian brothers and sisters are engaged in serious diplomatic efforts. However, as I said, Netanyahu and his team’s perspective on this issue is clear. We are aware of it, and we are taking our own measures accordingly.
