There are views in the Peak District that you can lose yourself in, watching for hours as the light changes, the mist moves, the shadows shorten. Your eyes follow miles upon miles of stone walls, stretching fields, hills and valleys, dotted with trees. You watch the sheep and the birds, you wonder about the lives in the farms and the barns. And then you realise that you're late for your appointments yet again. "Sorry, I was distracted by beauty." Surely that should always be forgivable?!

The south western corner of the legionary fortress of Eboracum (York) is still well preserved and the curve in the wall where the western and southern walls meet is still visible. Founded in the AD70’s as the legions pushed slowly northwards into the north of the country #york

@johnfielding001 I did not know flint is hard to make into a square tower. Interesting.

St Peter’s Church, Clippesby, Norfolk. The round tower is Norman, 11th–12th century, typical of East Anglia where flint made square towers difficult. Much of the nave was rebuilt in the 14th century. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. #Clippesby #aerial #Norfolk

@visitnorthyork My first thought was Gosh, is that for real? Beautiful

@Timdaw I think what we most enjoyed was walking to the stones and becoming aware of all the surroundings, the barrows, the circus and whatnot. That was cool.

@johnfielding001 Imagine having that much money to spare. Or maybe they were just trying to keep people employed.

Old John Tower, Bradgate Park, Leicestershire. Built in 1784 by Grey, 5th Earl of Stamford, probably as a landscape folly overlooking the estate. Bradgate was once the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, England’s “Nine Days’ Queen”, who lived here in the 1540s. #BradgatePark #aerial

@Timdaw This morning I was just thinking about the research my brother used to do and started wondering how he extracted cougar DNA from the samples. Thanks!

Downham Market, Norfolk. A market town recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086, its name meaning a settlement on higher ground by the fens. It prospered through agriculture and river trade on the Great Ouse, and later with the arrival of the railway in 1846 linking it to King’s Lynn and Ely. #DownhamMarket #Norfolk #aerial

Alexandra Dock, Port of Grimsby, Lincolnshire, opened in 1879 during the great expansion of the town’s fishing industry. Grimsby became the world’s largest fishing port by the early 20th century. Today the docks handle car imports, offshore wind industry support and general cargo on the Humber Estuary. #Grimsby #aerial #GrimsbyDocks
