I haven't read many crypto articles recently, but this one is definitely worth it. Great insights!! Multiple catalysts are converging and it's definitely worth paying attention to this field: "Privacy used to be mostly unusable, and not particularly useful for most people anyway, while regulations were out of touch with the technology. All three of those things are changing. The core PETs are getting faster and cheaper. Regulations are getting more specific and enforceable. And the use cases, from verifiable and decentralized AI to institutional onchain activity to private shared state in health, social, and advertising, are getting more concrete."

The thing is: in the long run, you probably won't care which of these wins. If the base-layer protocol is truly universal, it'll work the same whether MPC, FHE, TEEs, or iO is underneath. Like DNS. You're using it right now and have no idea how your request was handled.

FHE has been computationally absurd for general use, but that's changing. Intel just announced a hardware accelerator claiming 5000x performance improvement, and compiler-based bootstrapping schedules the expensive steps upfront instead of paying the tax repeatedly at runtime.

Crypto's privacy tech today is like locks from the 18th century, where very locksmith was competing to make the most elaborate design possible. We need a standard pin-tumbler that anybody can use or repair. A Universal Cryptographic Protocol (UCP).
