@levisan FWIW a lot of system turn this into a proper emdash: OTTOH iOS keyboard, WordPress, and maybe Google Docs (in markdown, its 3). If you see me do it, it’s in protest of the system not doing it for me.

I don’t think I can take seriously anyone who has the knowledge of how to use an em dash properly but lacks the knowledge to type it. Has a Ph.D., still types "--"

@ohryan @ohdessa 70 thousand 2025 dollars! Also, if 🤖 is right, that was 90-100% of the median household income in Canada at the time. (Similar to 70k and now)

@levisan I voted “first.” But I almost wonder if it’s neither. I’m not certain inflation makes sense in the context of relative buying power of currencies.

100 USD in 1975 is worth 590 USD now, which is ~800 CAD at today's rates. But 100 USD in 1975 converts to 102 CAD at the 1975 rates, which would be worth ~600 CAD today. Which gives a better idea of how much money it was?

The weird thing about companies asking devs outsource writing code to LLMs is that outsourcing that same work to human devs would probably be a fireable offence.

@levisan I was going to say that it’s important to remember that zippers (and buttons to a lesser extent) and relatively new inventions. But prior to their invention were we making full body clothing that enclosed the legs? I doubt it.

The single weirdest niche in fashion design is clothing items that require the wearer to get buck naked in order to defecate being marketed as daily-wear clothing

@vinnysgreen Don’t worry - speaking as a Canadians - none of the rest of the world sees the nuance of which specific US government entity is enabling tyranny today. The entire brand of your entire country has been destroyed. Sorry.
