Hypothetically if I bought a generic mini lathe could it turn down 2”x2” 6061 bar to 2” round or would interrupted cuts obliterate the motor and myself

These are the thinnest weight plates I’ve found. They’re CNC’d from a solid block of steel and then are 4-layer electroplated. A 45lb plate is 0.78” thin, ~40% thinner than most cast iron options.

@AnthropoceneMe1 It's just soapstone and it's actually very destructible. It wears down with use and actually develops a nice patina.
One "benefit" is that when ,not if, it chips, the broken edges self soften and won't be sharp.

There are large castings. Then there's the largest single casting ever poured. 600 tons of molten steel through multiple melts. 6 weeks to cool enough (from 1500°C to ~1000°C) to be removed from the sand mold, then cooled further, then 2 weeks in heat treat. Pre-machined weight: 370 tons Finished weight: 325 tons All done by Sheffield Forgemasters.
