@VitaCatholica Wawak.com (formerly Atlanta Thread) is a good mail order source for threads, zippers, sewing notions, fusible interfacings, etc. Not fabrics though, except for drapery lining fabric.

I know it has been a while now, but I'm still not over Joann fabrics going out of business. How am I supposed to reupholster my dining room chairs on a whim?

Spot on. The H-1B was legislated into existence in 1990 for the express purpose of displacing our white-collar/professional workers. STEM OPT was created during the George W. Bush administration by DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff in a back room deal with Bill Gates and was never authorized by Congress. Both programs need to end. On the bright side, STEM OPT can theoretically be terminated through administrative rule making. Being an American is so funny, only in America could you have aggressive foreigners from countries who we are literally *at war with* lecturing us about how American taxpayers owe them a fully funded graduate degree because it’s only $34,000 a year! The other high points of her lecture: “you aren’t even a Native American” (thanks CRT for drilling this talking point into every idiot’s head for 20 years) and they “pay tax” on their taxpayer funded graduate scholarship. Did you know, anon, there are nearly half a million Iranians studying in our universities? Did you know you’re likely paying all or part of their tuition and fees if they’re a grad student? Did you know there’s no rules that federally funded grad scholarships ought to go to Americans? Did you know it’s not hard to find boomer lib faculty at schools like A&M and Clemson who will tell you they hire Iranians because “Americans won’t work” which is code for “I can pay they them less and work them more.” Anyways, meritocracy or whatever!

I'm not a fan of Knoxville companies ignoring American tech workers so they can get green cards for foreign employees. Qualified Americans should apply to this PERM market test (remote job), whereby the associated PWD (P-100-25195-172890) says it pays $135,574.00. Enough is enough.

Once institutions reach 50% women, they rarely stop there. Helen Andrews points out that many fields keep feminizing — 52%, 55%, 56%… and in psychology, it’s now 75% female graduate students. It’s not just women out-competing men and hitting natural balance. As environments become more feminized, they often start feeling unwelcoming to men: different conversation styles, more gossip and factions, less tolerance for certain kinds of debate. Men quietly leave, especially those drawn to the harder, more analytical sides of the field, which accelerates the shift. The cycle becomes self-reinforcing. Andrews suggests the only way to reverse it may be deliberately carving out spaces where men can work and debate in a more masculine way — without apology. It’s an uncomfortable but honest observation about how institutions quietly change character over time. Do you see this pattern playing out in fields you’re familiar with? Is there a healthy way to push back without turning everything into a gender war?
