It's so tragic that universal love is all you need and it's already right there but you also need to proactively defend against those who don't believe either of those claims to be true.

I hate spring because it is too lovely. What am I to do with all this loveliness

so far this was the biggest unexpected surprise. i didn't even have königlicher hirschgarten picked out in advance, i just needed a nearby eating establishment to nymphenburg palace while i waited for my ticket time. the steckerlfisch may be the best fish i've ever had

That is the beach of my neighborhood, in the center. There is so much greenery and parks. And we're finally getting high rises. The future will be bright, if we get the dialogue between the newcomers and locals right. It's always the same, whether next gen, immigrants, or AI.

I feel deeply grateful for Switzerland's ability to maintain public infrastructure - physical, social, legal - and do it with an eye for beauty and progress. There are missteps, but they seem to be learned from. This is all I want from a society. share.google/Stjd62JTw03yMi…

I wrote about why I find most of the fertility discourse irritating: Daycare blows, tax credits do not make up for lifelong career harm, and "status" can't be separated from economic reality. We need to make motherhood RATIONAL, not merely bearable. Some highlights 🔽

I agree with Nietzsche that much of Europe is living off of the moral capital of a metaphysical zombie, even today. But I am more optimistic about AI than secularism. The pace of change is making it more obvious how badly our intellectual capital requires autonomous maintenance.

I misunderstood Nietzsche for a long time and don't want this excellent reference to be similarly misunderstood. He argued that abandoning belief in God but maintaining slave morality -- equality, pity, and compassion -- generates a content but mediocre society (correct afaict).

Admittedly, Google Recorder doesn't claim to be SOTA for anything but is it hard/expensive to just put a different model behind its transcription feature? The problem is probably that they've surged the one guy who maintained the app to some Gemini product?

Locally running Whisper large-v3-turbo is so much better for transcripts than whatever it is that Google Recorder is doing and requires 0 $$$

It's so hard to understand how unevenly distributed tech capabilities are at the moment, even in leading tech products. The pace of progress is so wild, is it worth directly tinkering with personal builds for virtually anything at this point?

I really hate Zoom (video chatting). Eye contact is off, and you’re positioned in this blunt, stark way vs. the way ppl normally sit or stand IRL. And I notice my body registers it more as “screen” than “people” attentionally. Is there anyone else like me who’s gotten over this?
