@_TRAMMY_ Because there is no value judgement to it, and it is true. I don't pass, it's not an attack and because of that I don't lash out when people make a mistake

I would appreciate being able to reply but this isn't an attack, when she uses her deadname and doesn't pass I wouldn't fault people for misgendering her by accident.

@lavie154 Would it really have to dissipate a similar amount of thermal heat? With an antenna the output is at least somewhat efficient compared to 100% of the thermal energy going into heat of a compute load.

@prof_biscuit i thought this too but: - existing starlink sats already have to dissipate similar ~order mag amounts of heat and do so, so it's a solved problem - the GPUs would be replaced at about the same rate anyway on earth - insane demand makes for wild decisions

@lavie154 The huge problem is cooling, not just power. That and actual compute scaling and the GPUs being burned up in the atmosphere. The numbers really dont work out that well.

To put it simply: the napkin math terrifyingly says this all might just work. To the extent that if you wanted a forcing function to get a thousand Starships flying - this really may just be it. Going over a lot more of this in the piece, but a snippet:

@suchnerve Do you see a future for green hydrocarb for use as fuel so long as it's manufactured using green e and carbon capture? I agree for the most part but I think heavy equipment will always benefit from hydrogen/LPG.

This would be the moderate approach btw. This would be the compromise. The actual thing that should ideally be done is immediately shifting society’s #2 priority to decarbonization, hard-banning fossil fuel consumption as quickly as possible. (#1 priority: people’s basic needs.)

Don’t ask me what I’d do as a dictator of the USA unless you’re ready for me to immediately say “Ban the manufacturing of new ground vehicles that aren’t fully electric and order the immediate construction of high-speed rail along every interstate highway”
