Flaco, the beloved Eurasian eagle owl who escaped Central Park Zoo and spent a year flying free over New York City, was found dead in 2024. He had four different rat poisons in his body. Rat poison doesn't just kill rats, it kills everything that eats rats, and it does it slowly. Poisoned rodents take up to 10 days to die, moving erratically and becoming easy prey. 86% of dead raptors tested in Massachusetts had anticoagulant rodenticides in their bodies. In California, 92% of tested predatory birds showed exposure. A 2020 Tufts study found rat poison in 100% of 43 red-tailed hawks tested in the northeastern US. The Lincoln Park great horned owl family, all of them, died of rodenticide poisoning in 2024. A single barn owl family eats 1,000 to 3,000 rodents a year, for free, all without poisoning everything above them in the food chain. Put up a barn owl box instead.

@BohuslavskaKate Ukraine is Russia, Russia is Ukraine. The West instigated the separatism, now trying to convince Ukraine to accept the ground realities. After getting shocked with Iranian retaliatory actions, the US is changing its support to needless war in another region for a while.

Vance: “What I would say to both Russians and Ukrainians is we're talking about haggling over a few square kilometers of territory. Is that worth losing hundreds of thousands of additional russian and Ukrainian young men?" Vance is once again failing to distinguish between the aggressor and the victim, attempting to convince you that it is acceptable to pressure the victim into complying with the aggressor’s demands. He fails to recognize that he is not only urging Ukraine to surrender territories, but also the people who live there, our homes, and our most fortified defense lines dooming us for future attacks, because this war is not at all about territory, but about Ukraine existence as a state.

This graph will shock you. I ran some calculations based on Ukraine aid tracker to determine the average brunt the taxpayer in each country bearing. The Nordic States and Baltic States' taxpayers are bearing the brunt the most while Spain and Italy have not even made it to the top-20 list. Denmark is the absolute winner here, Norway too. The American taxpayer made a sizeable contribution, has to be acknowledged, and still Again, these calculations are estimates, you can refine them further but they're meant to show you that the grudges some ppl have in Central Europe, for example, are valid because part of Europe still lives as if Russia doesn't exist. The graph with the refugee costs included in the second tweet

@KashPrime This has great value to rural and remote peoples, once constructed it can be translated into various languages, and culturally adjusted, like a wiki. Used the right way, could save lives in all sorts of ways (including as a reference for people to combat misinformation). 👍

Every day, one million animals are killed on American roads. It costs us $8 billion a year. Wildlife overpasses are proven to fix this. They are bridges, covered in soil, native plants, and sometimes trees that span highways and allow animals to cross safely. They've been common in Europe since the 1950s, and the US has over 1,000 of them built now. The data is extraordinary: in Banff National Park, 44 crossings along the Trans-Canada Highway reduced large mammal collisions by 80% and elk and deer collisions by 96%. In Arizona, one stretch of highway saw a 90% drop in wildlife collisions after crossings were installed. Animals are 146% more likely to use a crossing than attempt a random highway crossing. One overpass in Arizona was used over 6,000 times by bighorn sheep, bobcats, deer, and coyotes. They cost $5-15 million each. Why aren't we building thousands a year?

🚨 Japan’s Quantum Breakthrough Could Change Everything! Imagine sending information instantly across space without wires, without satellites… just pure quantum magic. Scientists in Japan have made a shocking discovery with a mysterious “W state” — a special kind of quantum entanglement that could open the door to the future of quantum teleportation. While this doesn’t mean people or objects are teleporting yet, it’s a huge leap toward a world where quantum communication is faster, safer, and almost sci-fi level. Experts say this breakthrough could transform computing, secure messaging, and the way we share information across the universe. Could this be the moment when science fiction starts to become reality? Source: Science Daily. (n.d.). Scientists capture W state, unlocking quantum teleportation.

@prof_brunt @jenseisert @BrainyScience There's quite a lot of tech I have distant memory and knowledge of not available to the public. But, when I learn and discover for myself, those specific memories of a book surface - serving as confirmation (for me) - while my impeccable photographic memory is recalled.

A brain surgeon who went to school for over a decade and touches people's brains daily will say something about the brain, and then some rando who got famous on Instagram will go on Joe Rogan and say "actually that's not true because XYZ." The masses will believe the Joe Rogan guest over the brain surgeon, and that's basically why society is failing. So thanks Joe

My message here clearly struck a nerve. A few friends from when I was press secretary, domestically and abroad, don’t like what I said. Instead of seeing how Western European nations must change, they just want to attack Trump. The reason it struck a nerve is because they recognize that this time NATO nations are being held to account. They know they’ve come up short for decades and by denying us overflight rights, they’ve gone too far. Americans are fed up, especially with France and Spain. Trump won’t stand for it and they know it. They now fear the consequences of their inaction. The UK, unlike its days under Thatcher or Blair, is wishy-washy. They’ve often been a good allie, but this time they want to sit it out and have it both ways. We can use their bases, but only for limited operations. At least the UK spends real money on defense. France, Spain, and Italy are another story. So too is Canada. None of these four contribute seriously to NATO. They’re laggards, trying to get away with it. Spain and France force our pilots to fly thousands of miles out of the way (I thought they didn’t like carbon footprints) en route to Iran. Eastern Europe is a different story. They spend more on defense and they understand power. They lived under Soviet domination and recognize weakness when they see it. They won’t be weak. Western European governments, especially France, are good at issuing communiques and statements. They enjoy hosting conferences. They love to ponder deeply. Getting them to act is another matter, unless it’s to purchase Russian LNG, which they still do. The world is changing. Out of this war will come a new group of younger nations that understand real power and the importance of strength. The UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Eastern Europe will emerge stronger than ever. Western Europe will continue to fall behind. As for Trump, you don’t have to like him. He often says things none of his predecessors would say. But don’t underestimate the fact that US taxpayers are fed up with nations that don’t pull their weight, and then force our pilots to take risks and longer flights so we can rid the world from the menace that is Iran. Today’s Western European leaders would rather mollify Iran and pay them ransoms (trade) than support the US. Things are different today. We all know it. The UK, France, Spain and Italy (despite its Prime Minister) have earned the consequences that will unfold. They could have and should have supported us. Not as a NATO alliance. But as individual free nations. All we wanted was overflight rights and full access to airfields. They’ve made their choices. Soon, they’ll see the results.
Ari Fleischer@AriFleischer

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.

@smalltownFlyboy @LoveMy7Wood Unless it is a boat for sustenance or professiinal fishing (aka sport boats or yachts), it is nonessential. Be serious, like tobacco or alcohol, or yeah makeup, they get a bit more tax added, so food and other essentials get no tax (not even HST). What tax reform do you suggest?

@prof_brunt @LoveMy7Wood What is non-essential? To you a boat is non-essential. To others, it may be vitally essential. Good luck with getting serious about taxes, HST is on that boat. The more expensive the boat, the more taxes paid. Let's get serious about tax reform before we fn add more tax. Ffs.

How the socialist mind works: I was telling my socialist cousin about how another cousin of mine wants to buy a motorboat but balked at the price because of the weakness of the Canadian dollar and the Federal government’s luxury tax. She said, “good.” I said by not buying the boat the salesperson will not make any money, the selling company will not make any money, the parts companies won’t make any money, the workers who build boats won’t make any money, the transport companies won’t make any money and the various levels of government won’t collect any taxes, never mind the luxury tax. Her answer remained, “good, it’s a luxury item and it needs to be taxed extra.” And they are the people who want government run everything.

Victor Glover failed an engineering class his sophomore year of college. His dad talked him out of joining the Navy SEALs and told him an engineering degree and pilot wings might make him an astronaut someday. Right now Glover is somewhere between the Earth and the Moon. He grew up in Pomona, California. Played quarterback in high school, wrestled well enough to place sixth at the state championship, won Athlete of the Year. Went to Cal Poly for engineering and played both sports at the college level. He got his Navy wings in 2001 and started flying F/A-18 fighter jets off aircraft carriers. His squadron deployed on the USS John F. Kennedy to fight in Iraq, the carrier’s final deployment ever. Twenty-four combat missions. His commanding officer gave him the callsign “Ike,” short for “I Know Everything.” He became a test pilot at Edwards Air Force Base and over his career flew more than 40 types of aircraft, 3,000 hours in the air, everything from a Korean War-era Soviet MiG-15 to the Goodyear blimp. More than 400 landings on a moving carrier deck. He earned three master’s degrees in three years. He once told Cal Poly’s president that the hardest thing he ever chose to do was walk in space. The second hardest was wrestling practice. He applied to NASA in 2009 and got rejected. Applied again in 2013 while working in the U.S. Senate for John McCain. NASA’s head of flight crew operations called him. He missed the call. Frantically dialed back. Eight people got in that year out of more than 6,000 applicants. NASA put him in the pilot seat for the first operational SpaceX Crew Dragon flight in 2020. He spent 168 days on the International Space Station and walked in space four times. Last June he went back to Cal Poly to accept an honorary doctorate. His wife Dionna and their oldest daughter Genesis both walked across the stage at the same ceremony to pick up their own degrees. Three days ago Glover launched from Kennedy Space Center. The crew will fly past the far side of the Moon on Monday and travel about 252,000 miles from home, breaking a distance record that Apollo 13 set fifty-six years ago. They come back at roughly 25,000 mph. He has four daughters. His callsign is still Ike.
RedWave Press@RedWavePress

NASA pilot Victor Glover CLAPS back after being asked what it means to be the first black man to visit the moon: “It’s the story of humanity, not black history, not women’s history, but that it becomes human history.” “I also HOPE we are pushing the other direction that one day we don’t have to talk about these first. That one day, this is just—and listen to this—that this is the human history.”
