Did you even watch him perform over the last year? Did you see how when he was asked to warm up before going in, he warmed up on the sidelines? Did you see how he has not been even half the player that he used to be? And when I say that, I don't mean just ability wise. Did you not read the reports of him and his issues with Tchouameni? Have you not seen him play in this World Cup? I can understand having one or two or even a bad spell of form. But what I cannot understand and accept is a player not trying like he used to. Valverde used to leave his heart out on the pitch and that is why he is the only player in the current Madrid squad whose jersey I own. But I don't see that guy anymore.

I used to think that Valverde was the least problematic player at Real Madrid. How wrong was I? Ever since he became somewhat of a senior and won some trophies, he acts like no one is above him, not even the coach. I would not have really believed this story had he played decently over the course of the tournament. In two games that he has played so far in the World Cup, the biggest tournament in the world, he has shown no sense of passion or urgency about his game, which are his two strongest points by the way. It seems as though when he doesn't like something, he doesn't even put an effort to make it work. He just simply is outright uninterested. The fact that he is going to be the captain of Real Madrid this season--something I used to really look forward to--gives me dread. Even though I am not sure of Mourinho's arrival, the one good thing about him is that this nonsense won't fly with him. Valverde will either have to improve his mentality or be kicked out of the club, both outcomes that are great for Madrid.
