Peter Thiel is leaving California if we pass a 1% tax on billionaires for 5 years to pay for healthcare for the working class facing steep Medicaid cuts. I echo what FDR said with sarcasm of economic royalists when they threatened to leave, "I will miss them very much."

@gatorsafterdark Have you considered self hosting in a colo? Resellers will sell used rack servers dirt cheap (picked mine up for $600). Can get a server with 12 HDD slots and fill it with 1TB laptop hard drives. That should hold about 20 years of data.

It's like 35GB a month to store every positional update of every train and bus on the @MBTA (not feasible $$ for a nonprofit to store in a hosted db somewhere). We stored a few days' worth, and I've been using it to detect bus bunching with a quick react app I wrote

Greetings. I've just pressed the option key and now I am holding it, which is why you see that small reddish capsule at the top of my screen, flashing in synchrony with my voice volume, etcetera. Anyway, I hope that didn't somehow clip the audio. The reason I'm doing this is to show off the fact that I've integrated NVIDIA's new parakeet, or relatively new parakeet, voice transcription speech to text model into Hex, my open source free Mac audio transcription tool. And Parakeet is ridiculously fast, so I will stop rambling in just a moment and release the option key, and it will transcribe and paste into the text box. So yeah, that was very fast. Faster than Whisper. Certainly faster and more accurate than Mac dictation. Uh so yeah, give it a shot and enjoy. The download link to Hex will be uh pasted beneath this transcription.

Could not agree more. However I don't think offense is just resetting bullshit. I don't care much about `main` vs `master` However I can't conceptualize what good offense looks like. Just like it's hard for me to conceptualize what goes on at a libertarian convention. How do we go on the offense without compromising ourselves? How can we go on the offense as people favoring productive construction and opposing destruction? Trying to destroy adversarial projects like Lix is just destructive. I am not changing my git branch from `master` to `trump`. Making an overtly pro heterodoxy COC would work, but feels like playing their game. Maybe we just appoint @sridca to be the one man moderator for all of open source. Seriously, we do need offense, but this isn't it. We can't just start counting their failures as our victories. @dhh not getting canceled is a noop, at best.

@fresheyeball Offense looks like identifying the insurgency social networks operating in the software community and expelling these actors. And then sharing the counter insurgency strategies that worked here with the other game boards they’re operating on.
