@paper_equity Nobody is saying they are perfect. Who is? But at least paint the full picture instead of cherry picking stuff that fits your agenda and presenting it without context.

Yeah — those deals went south. No one’s denying that. It’s not pretty. But let’s not pretend that’s the full picture just because it fits a narrative. Clearlake have literally doubled in size. They’ve taken over another major firm and now manage around $185 billion. That’s not a failing operation — that’s one of the biggest private equity players in the world. They’ve done 500+ investments. They still have ~70 active companies. The 8–10 “bad” ones everyone keeps recycling? Most of them come from that brutal 2020–22 period that hit everyone in the industry. It’s a tiny slice of the overall portfolio. And this is the part people either don’t understand or choose to ignore: Private equity is meant to look like this. Some investments explode. Some stagnate. Some need restructuring. That’s literally the model. You don’t judge it by cherry-picking the worst cases — you judge it by the scale, the growth, and the overall returns. And Clearlake are still growing. Still investing. Still operating at a massive level. As for Chelsea — because that’s what this always circles back to: All the debt sits above, at holding level. Chelsea itself has zero external debt. So no — the club isn’t being dragged down by a couple of rough portfolio names. “BlueCo OUT” is easy to shout when you’ve read a thread. Reality’s a bit more complex than that. I'm not an expert on this so this was written in collaboration with AI.

Became distressed in September 2024 Dodge Construction: invested in 2022. Defaulted in November 2024. FinThrive: invested $1.1bill in 2021. Became distressed in November 2024.

@MrCJC1990 Pochettino is the only appointment out of four that has been close to top level (Potter was there before the SDs technically but we all know Winstanley helped get him that job). I don’t think we can even get Iraola now. Nobody chooses us over other big clubs.

You praised Liam Rosenior stepping into a setup built for him, coming from a sister club with the same style and structure. You even said that’s why clubs use sister clubs, to make transitions smooth for players and managers. Now you’re switching up because results aren’t going your way. I rate your takes, but this comes off inconsistent.

The only way Liam Rosenior can work at Chelsea is if we sell 10–15 players and buy what he wants. But that's basically restarting the project. Imagine that! It's a complicated situation we have found ourselves in.

People are actually believing that a bunch of multi-billionaires – who have built multiple companies from scratch and sustained them – has seemingly no idea of how to run Chelsea Football Club – a business – financially. "But look at this article from some random outsider". Yeah, the club doesn't have to clarify absolutely everything and they sure as sh*t won't publicise their entire financial plan. What needs to be known is that the club has a lot of money, is generating a lot of money every season and is in full control of it's own finances. Football fans who barely has a clue how to organize their own personal economy suddenly starting to act like experts on a major companies' economy is the worst f*cking thing to appear on this app in the last few years – and there is quite a pool of competition.

This is beyond cringe. Since when has Chelsea ever celebrated basic contract agreements like they're some historic moment? People are acting like Caicedo was 6 months from leaving when he wasn't even close. It's embarrassing. This regime is so terrified of protests that they'll hype up absolutely anything just to keep fans quiet and at home. It's transparent, it's desperate, and it's not fooling anyone. @ebehdad

Why are you skeptical about the timing? Nothing can be done at this point. You can't buy players now. The least you can get is assurance and coming from Eghbali himself is huge. Yet, you are skeptical. He is not saying you shouldn't protest. The interview isn't meant to stop the protest. I think Rosenior has been on it for a long time. It's just your mindset at this point. You don't trust them or their words. That's all.

I understand people being skeptical, but Eghbali doesn't speak much. Adding his voice and backing the tweak Rosenior has been advocating is massive. If that doesn't happen, we can hold Eghbali accountable. I believe that's what you want to hear, why we are protesting. So, I wonder why some people are still angry about it. Come on, a bit of hope doesn't hurt. Life is not that complicated. Eghbali is the owner closest to day-to-day activities at the club; surely his words carry weight.

@tux1234 He could've. And he'd have got absolutely zero credit for it. I suspect what actually happened is he had absolutely nothing to do with it. He's the Prime Minister - he'll have had someone managing his residence. They'd have been told the budget, & will have done the whole thing.

So far this week there has been extreme outrage because Kier Starmer, the UK Prime Minister: 1) Went on a 3 day minibreak to Spain and stayed in a £200 a night 4 star hotel 2) Spent £1500 on a sofa, and £1400 on a bed at his Downing Street residence (all Prime Ministers have, and have always used, a £30,000 annual allowance for this same residence). Does anyone else see how pathetic and desperate this all is? In a world where so many world leaders are openly corrupt to the tune of multi-billion dollars, that these people are digging so hard and so deep to fabricate a scandal where none exists? Outrage bait BS, and we all know it.

The excuse 'We need breakfast clubs at school so we can get to work on time' won't wash. Either get a job starting at 9.30 or pay a childminder or family member to look after your child at 8am and take them to school at 9. Like we used to. And don't forget to brush their teeth and use the loo instead of nappies before you pop off to work too. Like we used to.

They "open" at 8.30. makes little difference in the working day. Why not make a minor charge (like private schools do for wrap around - on top of large fees) so that working parents get flexibility (7.45am to 6pm) but extra money isn't drained from State sector resources (they are already paying for over 25,000 ex private sector kids, many with send needs).

The irony of people attacking free breakfast clubs because ‘parents should work hard to feed their kids,’ when parents use these so they can drop their kids off earlier and then … you guessed it … go to work at the time required by their employer in order to feed their kids.

You know what I think is broken That children of working parents have to pay for holiday club, breakfast club and after school club, in order to be able to keep working when children are off school etc But the children of parents who don’t work, get those things for free even though they don’t need them because they’re home and can look after their children These ‘benefits’ should be for those who work full time. Not the other way round

If Chelsea are a serious club they are holding a press conference on 90 minutes, telling us that they have completely failed with the project and changing it, telling us they are sacking the SDs with immediate effect, and telling us they are sacking Liam Rosenior. Simple.

Toby McCain-Mitchell, 24, grandson of Red Rum legend Ginger McCain, has been banned for 10 days by Aintree stewards. On his Grand National debut, he failed to pull up the clearly exhausted horse Top Of The Bill after it tailed off badly. The horse continued and fell at the final fence, needing veterinary treatment. Stewards ruled McCain-Mitchell should have stopped much earlier for the animal’s welfare.

"Underwhelming success" was the arguments of the fanbase. You are deluding yourself if you believe the fanbase actually rated Luis Enrique in 2023. It's all just hindsight-bias. How could the club back Maresca more than they did? Maignan? Do you know why they didn't sign him? Because it would have cost us Mike Penders. A new CB? Who? Why is it that clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea couldn't find anyone despite being desperate for one? If Maresca wasn't good enough for Chelsea – why is he the leading candidate to take over from Pep Guardiola at Man City? Why can a club not hire a coach based on potential? Why does it have to be on merits? Bayern hired Kompany because of potential. Barça did it with Pep. Real Madrid with Zidane. Bayern with Flick. Leverkusen with Alonso. Arsenal with Arteta. Every coach is nothing but potential until they are merited – and they won't get merited until they are given a chance. That chance should come from potential. Does that mean Liam will be the guy? No, of course not. He might become a trainwreck but it's way too f*cking early to tell at this point anyway. He has potential now let's see if that potential develops into merits in time. Hiring someone based on relations isn't an uncommon practice – in football or anywhere else. It's wanting to give a chance to someone you know and have belief in. The problems arise when it's done BECAUSE you know them and not because you believe in them – which I don't think is the case here. The club is very well aware that what they have done hasn't been perfect and they are more than willing to take accountability for that by making the required changes. They now deserve the summer to prove that they will – if not, it's free for all in terms of outrage. Just make sure your expectations of their changes are realistic before you lose your head.
CFCJacob90@CFCJacob90

“Underwhelming success” 😂 The club had an opportunity to back Maresca properly in the summer and give him the tools needed. They didn’t. They failed him and they failed the supporters. January comes around. Another chance to correct obvious issues bring in a CB show some level of competence and accountability. They didn’t! Instead they wasted time chasing another “project” signing who saw through it all and chose a club where he will actually be competing at the highest level. Maresca, like the ones before him, was never at the level required to manage Chelsea Football Club. And neither is Liam Rosenior. He hasn’t been given the job on merit. He’s been given it because of his relationships with Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley. Not because he’s delivered anything of note as a manager. It’s the same lazy recruitment approach we keep seeing across the club. You can keep writing your long threads defending the ownership all you want. But match going fans, the ones who’ve lived and breathed this club for years/generations can see exactly what’s going on. This ownership structure is rotten. They haven’t just stripped away the identity and connection fans had with the club, they are actively putting its future at risk. Next time you put together one of your threads, spend less time spinning narratives and more time actually looking at the financial situation they’ve created. Because it’s not sustainable. This model does not work. And now as expected the players are starting to speak. Calling out the environment, the culture, the lack of ambition. Players are waking up. Fans are already there. Next up investor pressure! Very soon this flawed model will have nowhere left to hide.
