Netanyahu SUES New York Times for defamation over “rape of Palestinians” article Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar have launched a full defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. The suit targets Nicholas Kristof’s May 11 opinion piece that alleged systematic sexual abuse of Palestinian prisoners by Israeli forces, including repeated rapes with batons, genital beatings causing amputations, and one anonymous Gazan journalist allegedly raped by a dog while soldiers laughed and filmed. Israel’s Foreign Ministry called the article “one of the most hideous and distorted lies ever published against the State of Israel in the modern press” and branded it a “blood libel” that inverts reality. They point out Israel’s citizens were the victims of Hamas’s documented sexual atrocities on October 7 yet the piece portrays Israeli soldiers as the guilty party. The lawsuit was formally instructed on May 14, 2026. Netanyahu’s team says they will fight the claims in court and in public opinion.

BBC producer Dylan Dawes, 50, who downloaded over 6,000 indecent images of children avoids jail A former BBC Wales producer with a 22-year career has walked free from court despite being convicted of possessing and making more than 6,000 indecent images of children. Dylan Dawes downloaded the images across four devices a hard drive, laptop and two iPads between December 2006 and March 2022. Some of the devices were regularly left overnight at BBC Cardiff headquarters. He was found guilty at Cardiff Crown Court last month on three counts of possessing indecent images and three counts of making them. Dawes claimed he had no knowledge of the material, denied any sexual interest in children, and insisted colleagues who had access to the devices in open-plan offices must have been responsible. Judge Eugene Egan sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment suspended for two years and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register. The judge told Dawes he had already suffered “significant public humiliation” and warned him the ball is now in his court to stay out of trouble.
