Family of murdered 24-year-old Indian woman Harshita Brella flies to UK to demand justice as her killer husband remains on the run in India Harshita, 24, was last seen alive on CCTV at a boating lake in Corby, Northamptonshire on 10 November 2024. She was strangled by her husband Pankaj Lamba, 23, who then drove her body 100 miles and dumped it in the boot of a Vauxhall Corsa in Ilford, east London. The car was found four days later. Lamba fled to his hometown of Gurgaon, India. He was charged in his absence in March 2025 with murder, rape, sexual assault and coercive control. An international manhunt is still active. Today her devastated mother Sudesh, father Satbir, sister Sonia and Sonia’s two young children visited the lake where Harshita was last seen, laid flowers and left a note: “We promise to fight for you to get justice.” The family met Northamptonshire Police this week. Satbir said: “The police let us down twice… Harshita had a lot of dreams. It is my duty to get her justice.” The investigation remains ongoing with full UK-India cooperation.

New mum nurse, 27, executed in hospital car park by stranger in random attack Ada Doss, 27, a married nurse who had just given birth to her second child, was shot dead Tuesday afternoon as she walked to her car after finishing her shift at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Matthew James Taylor, 41, who had never met her, approached Doss, tried to snatch her purse, then shot her at close range when she resisted. She died at the scene. Taylor had earlier tried to carjack another woman at gunpoint in the same car park that day, but she managed to drive away. He was arrested moments later just feet from Doss’s body while still armed and is now facing capital murder charges. Police say there was zero connection between them it was a completely random and senseless killing. The hospital described the tragedy as the result of a mental health crisis and has immediately increased security for staff.

She and the two men who actually threw the acid will be sentenced on 11 June.

Devastated father pays tribute to ‘kind-hearted’ teenage son killed by meningitis in just hours Lewis Walters, a sixth-form student from Henley-on-Thames, Berkshire, died in intensive care at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in the early hours of 14 May 2026. His father Sean Walters said Lewis felt “a bit ill”, developed sepsis within hours and could not be saved despite the best efforts of the ICU team. Sean posted: “Words simply can’t describe the heartbreak… If you didn’t know Lewis, he was a funny, sociable kind-hearted soul. He liked to include everyone and took great joy in winding me and Kate up. He also loved his sisters, friends and family dearly.” The tragedy has hit Henley College hard, where two other students are now being treated for meningitis. Scientists issue urgent warning over drinking TEA plastic kettles release up to 3 BILLION dangerous microplastic particles per cup University of Queensland researchers tested new plastic kettles and found the first boil releases around 12 million nanoparticles per millilitre almost three billion particles in an average 250ml cup of tea. After 150 boils the levels drop but still hit 820,000 nanoparticles per millilitre, or 205 million particles per cup. Lead researcher Dr Elvis Okoffo said: “Boiling water in plastic kettles is a daily routine for millions… this simple habit can release tiny plastic particles into the water we use every day.” Health effects remain unclear long-term, but studies link microplastics to inflammation, immune damage, toxin carriage and possible accelerated cancer spread in the gut. The team recommends repeatedly boiling and discarding water before first use, and using hard tap water to cut particle release. They are calling for clearer safety labels on kettles.

British hero cop on holiday in Nashville saves US officer’s life after gunman grabs his weapon and fires Kent Police Sergeant Taylor Johanson was fresh off an eight-hour flight and on a relaxing break in Nashville, Tennessee on 7 May when he spotted Metro Nashville Officer Peter Kinsey fighting for his life on the side of an interstate. 43-year-old Joseph Rainey had ignored warnings, struggled with the officer, grabbed his holstered pistol and fired one round during the violent scuffle before jumping on top of him and beating him badly. Without hesitation Johanson jumped in, tackled Rainey to the ground and helped restrain him until backup arrived. He was convicted at the Old Bailey and jailed for two years and six months on 15 May 2026. The judge indicated he is likely to be deported back to Brazil once his sentence is served.

Southport knife attack survivor Leanne Lucas 'devastated' after 48 NHS staff accessed her medical records for NO reason Leanne Lucas, the dance instructor who was stabbed while running a Taylor Swift-themed children’s workshop in Southport in July 2024, has been told almost two years later that 48 members of staff at University Hospitals of Liverpool Group looked at victims’ confidential records with zero clinical justification. The trust discovered the breaches in August 2024 but delayed telling survivors until this week, claiming it was to protect their mental health. Leanne said: “I am absolutely devastated and horrified that my privacy has been invaded when I was at my most vulnerable… 48 people not involved in my care abused their position of trust.” The hospital has now launched HR disciplinary action against the staff involved, notified regulators and professional bodies, and issued a formal apology. Leanne has waived her anonymity and is represented at the ongoing Southport Inquiry by law firm Broudie Jackson Canter.
