+1 to this. And while hiring, newsrooms should consider: Is the hire going to be the only/one of very few BIPOC? Are you setting the hire(s) up with support + tools for success and inclusion? Is the newsroom prepared to hear/make space for/nonwhite voices and experiences?

If you work in mainstream media, my advice based on the blur and trauma of Those Four Years: - what you don’t cover ends up being more important than what you do; - you don’t represent another “side,” rather the public/audiences; - the lies outperform the fact-checks; - find a group of non-work friends to lean into every Friday night, when you’ll be most in despair and exhausted; - assess whether you can keep on with your employer (financially, emotionally, morally) and plan your next moves accordingly.
