LiteLLM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, DO NOT UPDATE. We just discovered that LiteLLM pypi release 1.82.8. It has been compromised, it contains litellm_init.pth with base64 encoded instructions to send all the credentials it can find to remote server + self-replicate. link below

This morning, I was thinking how my favorite literary novels use elements of genre fiction—Blood Meridian, for instance, is a horror novel masquerading as a Western. So, I made a list of novels that do this:

@AmericanGwyn I slipped into a steadying loneliness watching this one. One of the best things Netflix has done. The ending strikes a different note but they captured Johnson really well. Absolute loved Macy as Arn Peeples. All you Minnesota fellers wouldn't know what I'm talking about.

Finally watching TRAIN DREAMS (which, as a Denis Johnson fanatic, I’ve been saving for the perfect day). Easily the best film I’ve seen this year. Joel Edgerton is a massively underrated actor.

It is kind of crazy that Claude Code cannot tell the difference between when it is running in an isolated cloud context versus on my system. This seems kind of fundamental, no?

Would have been nice if @AnthropicAI told us that our $250 credit was just a cheap way for getting alpha testers instead of just dumping us into this terrible user experience thinking we might accomplish something.

Anyone got a success story they can share about fine-tuning an LLM? I'm looking for examples that produced commercial value beyond what could be achieved by prompting an existing hosted model - or waiting a month for the next generation of hosted models to solve the same problem

@girdley On that note, if you do happen to smoke pipe or cigar, your local smoking lounge might tick several of the boxes you are looking for and will be much less expensive than a club. (mostly) men hanging, shooting shit and smoking. Although unlikely to have a bar.

@girdley Yes but only if smoking is allowed. Not possible to do under the laws of many places in the US.

Is it time to resurrect Traditional Men's Clubs? Seating area. Quiet. Newspapers. Waiters. Dress code. No electronics. Bar.

lol. what is the point of codex's resume command? "I don’t actually retain memory of prior sessions, even if you carry a session ID."

@simonw I use direnv to auto-source all of my project environments. I don't use global python for anything. Environment is sourced when I enter the project directory so Claude inherits that environment.

Anyone got a pattern they like for running Claude Code such that when it runs "python -c ..." it's actually running a specific Python from a dedicated virtual environment managed by uv? I've done this with "source venv/bin/activate" before running "claude", more elegant idioms?

@emollick Just wait until you hit the weekly rate limit and can't have any chat at all for days at a time.

Claude's unwillingness to continue conversations after the context window is full is very frustrating. I am okay losing early context if I am working interactively on a project & making progress, I am not okay with suddenly being cut off and being forced to start a new chat.

Given that Google has already scanned like every book on the planet, I would pay good money for @NotebookLM to license books as sources in a notebook.

@AmericanGwyn Ok this is bizarre. I just discovered Bakhtin yesterday and checked out 4 books on dialogism today. You will now never convince me that you are not a bot ... who has access to my library holdings?

Literary critic Mikhail Bakhtin was arrested by the Soviet secret police in ‘28 & sent to a labor camp for dissidents. Here, he wrote what many suspect was his greatest book. But Bakhtin was a fend for cigarettes, couldn’t find rolling papers, & gradually smoked the entire ms.

@AmericanGwyn Wait what? Hungerford teaches Blood Meridian in her open Yale course. Bloom considered it part of the canon. You got reprimanded for "literature" reasons or because it offended the delicate sensibilities of your students?

@alejandroxpadi One of several 4th-wall break type of intrusions that self consciously call attention to the film as filmmaking and underscore a pervasive tone and general theme of film as theater.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned on this app before, but with all this praise for Anderson right now I want to highlight this moment from Magnolia where he switches lenses in the middle of a take
