Official word from NASCAR today on what NASCAR EVP John Probst discussed last week. Officially today: As you likely heard last week, NASCAR will be adjusting the stage lengths for the NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on April 26 (3 p.m. ET on FOX, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The updated stages will be as follows: Stage 1 will end on lap 98; Stage 2 on lap 143; Final Stage on lap 188.

The list of people that came out after and said they’ve done the same thing is exhaustingly long. Harvick did the same thing in his first race. It happens.

I can’t wait to see what the engineers and crew chiefs come up with to master this. Because as they’ve said before, you can change it, and they will find a way to make it work for them.

@GeneAWitt @A_Schwartz67 he also wrecked half the field at charlotte on a restart. arca at talladega is now a survival of the shitters & how lucky you are when the toyotas line up. he has no genuine knowledge right now of how to be fast in these cars other than mash the gas, turn the wheel, & hang on

@sdwatson283 @A_Schwartz67 Well he did run top 10 last year at both Dega and Charlotte last year in ARCA so I’m assuming those races were longer than 4 laps. Apparently he needs to run more races like that in a car with a ton of downforce to teach him to run NOAPS. Not sure how that translates.

@racingkhantz @KellyCrandall I don’t want to see this extreme fuel saving stuff in every. single. plate race. it was cool when it was random… but we start the race and the immediate focus is running so slow to go so far. plate racing is and can be fascinating in its modern era - but not currently

@sdwatson283 @KellyCrandall Im certainly not as smart as the teams are, so that is just my initial reaction. Itll never go away completely but it can be mitigated with a racier package
