Something you should know if you're looking to hire a wedding photographer is that a lot of photographers have "styled shoots" in their portfolio. These are basically organized events that a photographer has paid to attend, in which professional models are hired to play the part of groom and bride, with a beautiful venue and beautiful decor. They're not real weddings. Real weddings are hard. You can't control the light or the people and once a moment has passed, it's gone - there are no do-overs. Styled shoots are a common cheat. It’s kind of unethical imo. Once you know what to look out for, it’s pretty obvious. A big tell is a handsome groom. But I think most people not in the industry probably have no idea!

@thebasedgirl yeah, it's a lot harder to photograph the average couple who are awkward and shy in front of a camera, in a venue that doesn't cost 100k to rent out, on a time crunch!

@seedposting I remember seeing these! I knew they were legit if their portfolio had some.. not standardly beautiful people. Often the ones with these styled shoots have a hard time with composition in my experience.

i think im still doing this a little bit tbh! im weirdly hesitant to hang out w the known cool people around twitter who are part of the real life branch of the scene, w a high preference for meeting up w random mutuals who seem disconnected from it

i definitely fucked up in high school by thinking popularity must have an inverse correlation w coolness/goodness but looking back on college i did it there too! there was a v friendly group who ruled film club and were obsessed w firefly and i regarded them w suspicion

@goblinodds You have to adjust the white balance for every environment you’re in! With any camera shooting on manual. You can make it warmer or cooler etc but it will depend on the lighting ☺️

@seedposting oh my god i had that one of those it was so good. you still managed to get that cool vibe out of it!! i loved the photos i took on that but they were all orange and dreamy (i think i fucked w the settings to get green once)

Another good tell, if the shoot is posted on their socials and EVERY SINGLE VENDOR is tagged. It’s a part of our contracts because a lot of us are participating for the professional photos and providing our services for free or discounted

Our wedding photog was so stressed out by ✨ dynamics ✨ at our wedding that he disappeared for hours and didn’t take any pictures of us, the bride and groom. We took one photo at the end of the night in a photobooth and later realized it was the only shot of us the whole day.
