@gblaquiere @polleyg @jthegedus This is purely my personal approach, but I tend to bias towards ease of implementation first and flexibility second. That being said: if you take the opposite tack (flexibility and portability come first), I'd agree - Cloud Run makes more sense.

I'm not getting it. I don't see any upside to using Google Cloud Functions Gen 2 over just reaching straight for Cloud Run instead. Am I missing something obvious, apart from not having to deal with containers? (calling @jthegedus @gblaquiere to try and shed some light 🙂)

The most important lesson I've learned in the last year: Burnout isn't just the result of too much work. It's the TYPE of work. And, more specifically, your emotional connection to it. Burnout comes from feeling like no matter how much you do, it will never be enough.

It took me two hours at the hardware store looking for machine screws, and I still ended up getting the wrong ones. Is this how it feels for those who just want to understand their options how to run a container?

I don't know who needs to hear this (I certainly did 6 years ago) so here we go: Getting your 1st job post-bootcamp/self taught/career change is really really REALLY hard. But it will get so much better + easier once you gain experience & expand your network. Don't give up!!💪💙

I forgot how much I love Cloud Functions for rapid prototyping and learning new tech. That doesn't mean it can't be used in prod, lots of folks do. I use it for my home automation. But when I want to poke around a new product or learn a new API I reach for functions first.

Observation: a lot of miscommunication stems from people incorrectly assuming that everyone understands some piece of context. This is where we see docs suffer too.

I'm a dev. My app makes $22k / mo. I just revealed that my server costs are $1200 / mo. Typical dev response: you could save money if you <massive migration to XYZ platform> Reality check: I'm not looking to save a few hundred bucks per month. I'm looking to grow my business.
