Pride is meant to affirm the dignity and survival of LGBTQ+ people. But this year, it ended with Trump shutting down a suicide prevention service for queer and trans youth. And it’s going to get kids killed. I wrote for @Tennessean about how I could have used this lifeline:

One way to counter “misinformation” is to say clearly what your position is. Either you believe rerouting the line to appease homeowners (which already happened) and conducting multiple studies (which showed fears of a tunnel a hundred feet underground were not founded) means everyone has been heard even if everyone isn’t happy. And it’s time to move forward a DECADE after the city voted by 70 percent to support expanding transit including the K line. Or through a motion you could try to delay for this group of homeowners - especially harmful when more delays could jeopardize billions in funding and doom any hope of building before 2041. 2041! The meeting is tomorrow, a massive infrastructure project is at stake, you sit on the board and appointed three of its members, and it’s not totally clear what you’re saying here (hopefully the motion is an empty gesture!), even though you say you support the project. So people are worried that you will give into political pressure, as you did on SB79. But all of these advocates for transit who seem to be bugging you would be ready to applaud you for stepping up. I guess we’ll see!

Just this one subsidy to a foreign company to kill wind projects purely out of spite by Trump costs TWICE as much as the loan guarantees to the dreaded Solyndra. Solyndra was a rightwing talking point about waste for YEARS. And that loan program - which always assumed that some projects would fail - not only made up for those losses, but ended up being profitable for taxpayers. But doubt we hear a word about this latest boondoggle from the same people who were horrified by the supposed waste and told us government shouldn't choose winners and losers. Makes you wonder!

oh and trump’s illegal war is already sending energy prices soaring, so i guess now is a good time to deepen our reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets that he’s destabilizing. while killing homegrown clean energy that could insulate us from that volatility.
