The whole “paycheck growth vs inflation” thing drives me insane.
Politicians don’t understand that I don’t care how much the average paycheck is growing relative to prices.
What I want is for the thing that cost $5 in 2020 and now costs $11 to go back to being $5.
I do not want to have to cut coupons at Aldi to get reasonable prices. I do not want $100K to be a normal price for a truck.
When consumers demand affordable goods, they mean they want to price to go down. Not other people’s paychecks to go up more than prices.

things i, an american, have learned from europeans on twitter about my own country that are news to me:
-we don’t go outside
-we don’t have humidity
-the whole country is a desert
-we don’t have bakeries
-we don’t have passports
-we say “parsta”
-we don’t have produce in our grocery stores
-we don’t have bread
-we can’t hang our clothes outside to dry
-there is more biodiversity in belgium than the entire US (lol)
-we can’t walk outside

Anyone who claims the lack of joy about the 250th is a function of a rough economy was not alive in 1976.
The country rocked in its 200th celebration and the economy was a FREAKING MESS.
There is this Gen Z misconception that the '70s and early '80s were some sort of economic golden age of readily available, well-paying jobs, low cost housing and an all around sense of prosperity.
WRONG.
Google "Stagflation." Google "gas lines." Google "mortgage interest rates in the 1980s."
Our economy today is a golden age by comparison, without exaggeration.
Yet somehow in 1976 we could gleefully celebrate our nation's birthday without Democrats turning it into a Howard Zinn-inspired anti-history hatefest.
