Salt Lake City Police Department is setting up a Friends and Family Assistance Center for those affected by the recent shooting. Individuals are invited to stop by 1155 North 1200 West between 11:00 am and 8:00 pm and receive assistance in person or request off-site services by phone, 801-580-7969, or email, victim.advocates@slc.gov. Virtual appointments are available upon request. We are aware of an arrest conducted by federal immigration agents, which is unusual at the Salt Lake City International Airport. Incidents like this create fear and uncertainty in our community. The operation was not coordinated with or directed by Salt Lake City Police. We have requested additional information from federal agencies in the interest of promoting transparency, accountability and the well-being of all who live in and visit our city. Salt Lake City remains committed to treating everyone in our community with respect and dignity to the full extent of our power.

Our FY26 budget includes $55.8 million for the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This money funds citywide community projects that improve public property, like streets, parks and buildings. We are reviewing project requests from the public and City departments and will decide how to distribute this funding in August.

Today, we witnessed thousands of people marching peacefully, respectfully and with purpose in downtown Salt Lake City. That unity and care for one another reflects the heart of our city. It’s especially painful that such a meaningful and peaceful moment was followed by an act of violence. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim, their family and everyone affected. We are grateful to our first responders for acting quickly to provide aid and support community safety. Salt Lake City is a place where people care deeply, show up for each other and speak out for what they believe in.
