I think modern Arsenal discourse is missing a bit of perspective.
Finishing 2nd twice in a row to one of the greatest Premier League teams ever in Manchester City, and going to the final day in one of those seasons, isn’t failure in my view.
I’ve watched football long enough to know how hard it is to win leagues. In most eras, those points totals do win you titles.
What Mikel Arteta has done with Arsenal is turn them into genuine title challengers again, consistently.
The issue is the standard has been set so high by City that even elite seasons now get labelled as ‘bottling’ or ‘not good enough’.
I think context gets lost sometimes in modern debates, especially online. You can be a top-level team and still fall short against an historically dominant side.”
And even this season, Arsenal are right in the mix again ... going toe-to-toe with City in another tight title fight, where small margins and key moments are once again deciding everything.”

@PoznanInMyPants Arteta has gone toe to toe with probably the best manager of all time. Theres no shame in being bested by a point or two. But with the squad and position we had it’s impossible to say it wouldn’t be a bottle now.
English

@arnoldmugogo @gtalksarsenal Edu bringing in Sterling on loan last season as back-up is why Saka is fucking cooked by the way. He is why we can never have all of our players available. Useless.
English
@gtalksarsenal Everything is as it should be, a tight race, a possible final.
Don’t start Victor Gyokores. Let “the best CF chill for World Cup games against WC Centerbacks!
He’s ruined our squad, just as I told you a while back in the summer transfer window

@rossi_wilko @TalkCPFC It’s all about what will make people spend money and drive the FUT market. Cucu is a great player but has been poor this season.
English

@ArteTalibann @Rory_Talks_Ball The only team that still have anything left to play for that we have are West Ham. City have 3 teams competing for Europe. It ain’t over
English

@softbaked__ @Rory_Talks_Ball Stop clutching at straws bruh. It's gone
English

Look how insufferable the Arsenal fans are being in this video

HAALAND MAKES IT 2-1!!!!!
English

@Nj04K @Rory_Talks_Ball Yeah that’s shocking mate. Think PSR needs to find a way to divert funds down the football pyramid.
The investment/ money in the prem has almost ruined the football because teams are desperate to stay up so the games have become turgid.
English

@softbaked__ @Rory_Talks_Ball The refs are poor across the pyramid, we missed out on the playoff final because the circled player scored despite being a mile offside. The standard of reffing across country has been getting worse, and VAR isn't helping but the prem is the most boring to watch now by far

English

@Nj04K @Rory_Talks_Ball Good to hear your perspective on it as a neutral. Unfortunately it doesn’t really surprise me at all, for such a highly respected league the quality of the reffing is poor. Especially where the games have become so much closer - one wrong call can make the difference.
English

@softbaked__ @Rory_Talks_Ball Completely agree, I don't really support any prem team so it used to be quite nice watchin it as a neutral, but now I just found it very boring watching players jump around tryna get fouls from the ref and VAR taking 30mins to make up their mind
As you say, just go for goal
English

@Nj04K @Rory_Talks_Ball Agreed - which is why there’s no point relying on the refs to get it right in my opinion, unless you’re certain it’s going to get given (and even then you can’t really be).
Better off trying your luck for a goal than expecting them to give anything.
English

@softbaked__ @Rory_Talks_Ball See I think it's more of a reffing issue than anythin because so many players across the league doing it. They seen VAR and refs give fouls for the slightest of contact so they keep pushing it, granted confidence will play into it because they see it as easier to get a foul
English

@Nj04K @Rory_Talks_Ball Think it’s a confidence issue more than anything. Doesn’t back himself to bury it so tries to win fouls. After he unfairly got a pen against United last season I think the refs are onto it.
English

@softbaked__ @Rory_Talks_Ball tbf football now especially in the prem is who can go down under the least contact, Havertz is massively guilty of that, I've watched a few Arsenal games this season and without fail he will always go down as soon as he feels the slightest contact, it's poor to watch
English

@Gunneruni @FA_PGMOL Havertz always goes down in those situations. No confidence to take the ball forward and have a shot.
Maybe it’s a red maybe it’s not. But being seen as a player who’s looking for it won’t do you any favours with the refs.
English

@softbaked__ @FA_PGMOL I disagree. Red card for Khusanov changes the game. Saliba was sent off for less.
English

For those that dont know. This is exactly why Guardiaola and Rodri spoke so strongly against the refs when decisions were not going their way earlier in teh season. That Khusanve challenge was a clear red and the winning goal could have been disallowed for a foul. @FA_PGMOL
English

@Gunneruni @FA_PGMOL Have you read the content of it you donut? Clearly saying the game was reffed fairly. Grow up.
English

@softbaked__ @FA_PGMOL Your page is full of retweets of the foul on Gabriel. Disingenuous.
English

He 100% is, but I think Taylor went into the game with the plan to let them fight one another.
I’m ok with that being a goal, and I’m ok with the “headbutt” being a yellow.
Because it’s consistent over the match. Taylor wanted to let them fight and he did.
It’s good reffing.
Josh Benson@joshbenson1310
Erm, is Haaland not fouling Gabriel during the build up to the goal? If the other way around it's a certain penalty. Because it's their media built up battle did they just let it slide? As they did the Gabriel red card before anyone jumps on that.
English

@TFTerraceMedia @HACKETTREF No. Gabriel lost the duel, we should be grateful Haaland didn’t get him sent off & suspended for 3 games.
