There is a forward facing concave dish with two small antennae. Exactly like a radio receiver. We now cram the microwave bands 24/7 with radio pollution and overwhelm them. Any mileage in this idea?

@markweb29890220 @TempleBalsall The same thing happened around Meriden. It often isn't noticed that the workers will swarm out first and brutally sterilise an area about a meter in diameter before their winged fellows emerge.

@PaintingAndrew You speak of Nature friendly farming. A local farmer always sows bee-friendly margins in his fields and they positively BUZZ. It costs little and gains a lot (he has a bumper pea crop). Honey and Bumble bees adore the phacelia and borage. Also @TempleBalsall

BUT. Martin Down is an island of nature in a sea of nature decline. We need more Martin Downs, connected by nature networks across the landscapes, as well as more nature friendly farming, to really address the biodiversity crisis in Britain 7/7

Martin Down NNR in Hampshire is a pocket of bio abundance bucking the trend of insect decline. I was blown away yesterday by the sheer numbers of inverts, including thousands of butterflies! Quick thread on how are they doing it… 1/7

Ubiquitous example of the tension with free public access to important wildlife sites at @DerbysWildlife Lightwood: public disregard for signage with dogs spreading invasive aquatic plants and likely killing aquatic fauna with pet flea treatments.
