@jch2355 The meme has turned into showing a sequence of related things, generally in decreasing quality and where the poster is acting like they prefer the later choice because they have “refined tastes”.

I do not get the tweet, and I am totally lost by the responses to this tweet. What am I missing?

@KirillOsenkov @ethomson @JSchindelin Perhaps it is getting confused about needing to rewrite. Do you have a consistent repro? Perhaps with a public repo or small example? Run with GIT_TRACE2_PERF=1

@KirillOsenkov @ethomson @JSchindelin Git writes the index to an index.lock file then renames it, which is why it looks like a deletion from the file system perspective. “git status” will rewrite the index if it thinks something changed, so the next run can be faster.

@JSchindelin @stolee @ethomson under what circumstances can `git status` rewrite .git\index with identical contents? I’ve gotten myself into this state.

Is there a name for repeated words in a sentence? I've always found it distracting as a reader and as a result have tried to eliminate it as a writer, but I don't even know what "it" is. For example: "I gave her her stuffed animal."
