Respectfully, the question here becomes: does a filmmaker need to pay a cast and crew?

Are the contradictions of the mainstream production pipeline worthwhile to make movies with a message that can reach a wide audience is the question we're really asking here

Pisses me off watching Boots Riley have to explain the very basics of Marxism to American leftists. STFU up with your purity politics. This man is a legend & knows so much more than you. For the love of God read just a little. The simple line “the capitalists will sell us the rope” debunks all of your grievances with his art.

@normalwomxn @quiveringpudle So- you're going full, unprincipled, attempt-to-move-the-goal-post attack mode. I made no ideological compromises2make my work. 1st, Megan Ellison isnt on any BDS list. again stop faking some kind of constructive discussion, when if u wanted 2b in a convo, ud have started a convo

Wonder if this person knows how capitalism works. Or that Annapurna (Megan Ellison's company) also put out Sorry ToBother You. Or that corporations put out The Coup's music. Or- maybe they know someone w $20M wholl give it to me to make a movie. The goal isn't gentler capitalism.

@AGoldenkind @studiomurdock @a_ehunt What does this actually mean? Because outside of crowfunding and state grants, there's not really a system that exists where everything is ethical and the production pays their crew fairly. And you can't just sign up for $20m in state grants

@studiomurdock Genuinely trying to follow. If public financing has been stripped and the only way for artist to make art, other than crowdfund, how do they make it? And the 20 mil is spread across 100s of crew members which helps people live. Build things. Pays permits. Etc. I’m just confused
