@joel120193 I do some sort of intellectual prep before a lesson (notes).I plan the sequence, and if my Q are unplanned I use a method that moves from checking in parts, building to students recalling/expl concept back to me in whole. In lesson,CFL>CFU>secure?>confident? approach.

@joel120193 Interesting Q & great thread. It’s made me think about how nuanced Q is and how we support less exp. colleagues with it.

To those who do not use PowerPoints: If you have a MWB question you want to give pupils, do you just say this verbally and they answer? Do you write it down on the board/visualiser? How do you plan for what you're asking, do you have this in your head or is it written down?

***YEAR 6 TRANSITION*** A key part of our transition strategy this year is to provide our Year 6 students with a clear understanding of life at Longdendale. Our story boards share life at Longdendale through our mascot, Lenny 😊 #transition #schoollife

So I know @unleashing_me are close, some might some brothers, but we are definitely not the same person! Google attributing Sufian's face to my name, much to his happiness at how much that bothers me! @AJRAllModCons @ChilternTSH 😂😂😂

@PaulGarvey4 @DTWillingham I can see the genuine need for empathy and support, perhaps CBT when anxiety is severe. I hope we might also be able to consider earlier intervention approaches e.g. addressing root causes of school-based anxiety, often related to performance & reframing it as effort.

@supernova2gold @DTWillingham Me too. But it’s very easy to spot confirmation bias as the opinion expressed in the OP is a long, long way from the consensus.

When students are anxious/depressed, one method of remediation might be TEACHING THEM TO DO SCHOOL BETTER. Just got this message from a mental health professional.

@PaulGarvey4 @DTWillingham I also don’t think there’s a need to get entrenched in this or that arguments. Trad or not, as a mother & teacher, I do believe recognising barriers, and supporting young ppl to overcome these is what the majority of educators aim to do.

@DTWillingham @supernova2gold Or, of course, schools could do better for the children. But that’s not Daniel, or the traditionalists’ way, is it? Children have to do things for them to make their working lives easier. There’s something deeply wrong with that statement, when you actually think about it.

@DTWillingham @PaulGarvey4 I lead on exams. I’ve proactively lead a strategy to reduce anxiety by discussing how to prepare, revise and manage revision. Sometimes, this meta-thinking might be assumed or overlooked. In my experience, explicit discussion of barriers/techniques has helped Ss manage anxiety.

@PaulGarvey4 @supernova2gold I don't think you understood the point. The therapist was saying "students can be anxious because they don't have the skills to learn independently." Skills like reading or preparing for an exam. We can teach these skills. The point isn't to make teachers lives easier.

🔥 ‘If we want to break the cycle, the solution is …. treating implementation fidelity as an achievement, not an afterthought, and creating political and institutional cover for leaders who choose continuity over novelty’. A blog of brilliance.

Why is education so damn fad-prone? My latest looks at our field's worst habit: its endless enthusiasm for shiny new things instead of sticking with what works. thenext30years.substack.com/p/why-is-educa…

"Requires Attention." Schools with high FSM are far more likely to sit under that label in the new Ofsted framework, especially the Achievement section. Daft thing is, it already has our attention. It always will. Poverty requires attention. Hunger requires attention. Trauma requires attention. A judgement that ignores all of that - and then penalises the people giving their lives to the cause? That requires attention too.
