@colinwalker79 Hydro electric is included into the renewable power. But does all that pumping use only wind and solar power? 🤔

@colinwalker79 Except our electricity is still coming mostly from gas I had an EV all last week. It was sh!t I'd never buy one

@PrivateBrewing @andyffff @OctopusEnergy @g__j @BBCNewsnight Yeah 👍 It just transfers energy via propane…our heatsink on the Stove Jet is similar. We run on wasted thermal energy and make a log burner more efficient, acting like a sponge. I can see heat pumps being the future, but adoption is key.

@syniodesign @andyffff @OctopusEnergy @g__j @BBCNewsnight The vital aspect of heat pumps is that they move heat from one place to another - which is more efficient than generating it directly. So even when you use fossil fuels for electricity and have efficiency loss there - it's still overall more efficient than burning fuel for heat.

We've got to electrify everything. This can't be another Groundhog Day - it has to be the wake-up call. Our CEO @g__j was on @BBCNewsnight, repeating exactly what he said during the last gas crisis three-ish years ago. When Britain depends on gas it doesn't have, your bill pays the difference. Different crisis, same dependency.

Electricity is not always "4 times more expensive than gas", let alone these weeks Heck right now I can get 0.04 cents per kWh which is even lower than the cost of gas, of course it is time of day, but heat is easy to buffer Besides, we can produce our own power, gas we have to buy it to some other country, I rather live knowing that my electricity supports my country and not some far away power

Amazing but true…. Even if all the electricity powering a heat pump was generated from gas, it’s so efficient it uses a lot less gas than a boiler! And an electric car powered by electricity from gas uses less fossil fuel energy than a petrol car… ELECTRIFICATION IS AMAZING and ofc once you have heat pumps and electric cars you are not stuck with fossil fuels, you can use any source you like for the electricity. Only 2/3 of people can charge an EV at home, but no one can with petrol. Solar panels will charge cars and power heat pumps. But gas boilers and petrol cars are totally dependent on the horribly unreliable global fossil fuel market. Ofc, the fossil lobbyists know this which is why they use their astonishing wealth and influence to make people hate EVs and heat pumps

@Agusx1211 @g__j Guy Martin just explained now I get it. 😅 So heat pump is 4 times more efficient than gas boiler but electricity is 4 times the price so why would a consumer switch to a heat pump?

@DrAndrewR Every day is a school day… I focus deeply on the products I develop which reduce gas and save people money. Personally I haven’t heard much positive feedback regarding heat pumps. Maybe Ed should get one installed and lead by example. #syniostovejet

What comments like this show is that heat pumps are so poorly understood, they don’t realise that even if all heat pumps run on electric generated by gas, they’re still significantly more efficient than boilers, and total gas consumption would fall substantially.

@KateFantom It’s amazing, but the elephant in the room is what happens when the sun doesn’t shine and wind doesn’t blow?

Whatever you read on the internet, please remember the facts. So far this year renewables have supplied over 42% of our grid energy. That’s more than any other energy source.

@syniodesign @g__j @andyffff @OctopusEnergy @BBCNewsnight The immune system doesn't make memory B cells to particulate matter. Immunity is mediated through antigen presentation of pathogen proteins to B lymphocytes in lymph nodes. Particulate matter is too small to be interpreted as a possible antigen by human MJC receptors

@colinwalker79 Extracting energy from the sun and wind is great… what happens when we don’t have these energy sources? Blackouts for 12 hours?

People who ‘follow the data’ would probably use a sample period that’s a little longer than 12 hours How about, say, the last 12 months? In which time renewables have generated 42% of the UK’s electricity Gas, meanwhile, is at 28%

Latimer Alder@latimeralder

'We can rely on wind power' say the Green Grifters and Politicos 'Oh no we can't!' says Latimer 12 hours ago wind was making nearly 15% of Britain's electricity. Now its just 4%. Its gone on strike. And there's nothing we can do about it.

@LewisStanding1 Cooking and candles can create bigger indoor PM spikes than a modern sealed stove — but it all comes down to how the stove is used. I agree we should engineer a better system that captures the exhaust / chimney carbon. Building this system over the summer.

@LewisStanding1 @g__j @andyffff @OctopusEnergy @BBCNewsnight I think I trust independent studies from people online. Not organisations with hidden agendas. How parts per million are coming into the room when the fire is pulling air from the room? Humans lived in Smokey huts 🛖 for centuries and we don’t have any immunity?

@syniodesign @g__j @andyffff @OctopusEnergy @BBCNewsnight Problem is wind sweeps that smoke down into your neighbours lungs They didn't have a choice in your decision to burn, but have to live with the consequences. Plus every time you open it to add a log 🪵 smoke fills your home
