If propadee prices were falling and people’s equity and wealth was shrinking Could private schools still charge $30k+ a year in fees en masse ? It’s an interesting thought experiment We may just find out

I’m surprised a bit by just how high some private school fees are in Brisbane today Many many schools north of $30k + a year in fees or around that mark No tax deductions for these costs either, it’s all post tax money So for high earners, that’s $60k a year per kid of pre tax earnings 3 kids there’s $180k before you get out of bed, clothe or feed them Can keep people running on the hamster wheel for a long time You can also see how what sounds like a reasonably good salary disappears pretty fast

Aboriginal Land Council proposes to build 8 storey buildings on their land in Haberfield. Local NIMBYs counter that it can’t be done because Haberfield is a “historic” area (where historic means it was built 100 years ago). You can’t make this stuff up!

@SydneyYIMBY @aussiewongm The oldest homes there are 112 years old as the area was developed in 1901. That doesn’t mean the entire suburb has to be a “time capsule” for old people. Hypothetically, if they sold the land, somebody else (a big developer) would built a 8 story or larger place there anyway.
