While it’s welcome news that cricket will again be played on Australia Day, Cricket Australia’s decision not to play our national anthem is yet more tone deaf woke moralising. Yes, our past is not perfect. But our nation’s achievements far outweigh the wrongdoings, and our nation is worth celebrating. Instead of kowtowing to activists who want to make Australians feel guilty about our past and ashamed of our nation, Cricket Australia should proudly play our national anthem at the Big Bash final, reflecting the views of the overwhelming majority of Australians – and cricket fans – who love our country and feel profound gratitude for being Australian.

A star of both the big and small screen, Sam Neill was beloved by audiences around the world. An actor of remarkable substance and subtlety, Sam captivated people’s attention through all the characters he played: the understated heroism of Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, the transcendent evil of William Weir in Event Horizon, the idealism of First Officer Vasily Borodin in The Hunt for Red October, the cunning of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey in The Tudors, to name but a few of his standout roles. Sam Neill will be deeply missed but he lives on through a legacy of performances that will be remembered and marvelled at for generations to come. May he rest in peace.

Today we honour the extraordinary life of Professor Richard Scolyer AO. A former Australian of the Year, his legacy of courage, compassion and scientific excellence will give hope to countless others around the world.

Since Labor came to power, Australia’s migration program has been in chaos. Numbers have been too high and standards have been too low.

From newspaper journalist, to television presenter, to radio broadcaster, to Senator, Derryn Hinch was a well-known figure in Australian life – a man who stood by his opinions with conviction and was never afraid to court controversy. In politics, he will be particularly remembered for his fight to improve the criminal justice system, including harsher penalties for those guilty of violent and sexual crimes, and better support for victims. On behalf of the Coalition, my condolences to his family and friends, especially in the media.

Australia needs change. But not destructive change. Change for everyday Australians that turns tough times into better times. That can only come from a strong plan built on self-determination and enterprise by a team that has lived it.

You need to listen to the people. Give them what they need to succeed. And then get the hell out of their way. Our path back to prosperity will be built on self-determination and enterprise. Record small business insolvencies under Labor. Now for no extra work, they’re taking more of what you earn. We will axe Labor’s toxic taxes and back the young Australians who will be setting up small businesses in the future.

We need more apprentices and a government that supports their ambition, rewards hard work and helps them to get ahead. These are the Australians who will be building our future.

As we mark 250 years of the United States, we celebrate American history. We pay tribute to the American people. And we acknowledge the rights, freedoms and values that forged the American achievement and inspired other nations, including our own. Today, we also celebrate the Australian American Alliance. A deep and abiding friendship and partnership that was born at the Battle of Hamel, formalised with ANZUS, and fortified through AUKUS. On behalf of the Coalition, I express my sincere gratitude to all American servicemen and women, officials, and diplomats who are here in Australia, especially in the Top End.   To the President, to the American people, to the land of the free and the home of the brave: Congratulations, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.

We need to restore freedom, aspiration, opportunity and reward for effort. It’s exactly what the @LNPQLD has done to Queensland. The Labor Minister for Defence Industry has called Sir Robert Menzies a “Nazi appeaser.” This is an outrageous slur against Australia’s longest serving and greatest Prime Minister. Our history is worth celebrating. And great Australians who changed this country for the better are worth remembering, honouring, and defending. Pat Conroy should apologise.

Our history and our anthem should be celebrated. Our national anthem should be sung at significant occasions.
