@jennineak thats because the third spaces exist in the morning rather than the night, and whenever ive explored melb and sydney at night there's always plenty things going on with all cultures mixing and do their thing - not sure what you're looking for here really?

it’s actually hell on earth if you come from a night culture. most people work during the day and at the end of the day there aren’t many genuinely accessible third spaces with beautiful art music culture life for some reprieve. it’s just pubs which is sad and pathetic

this goes to the heart of so-called australia’s soullessness. everything closes early, you can’t get a coffee after 3pm, there’s no Night Culture, no milk crates in the streets, no warmth, it’s a large scale retirement village for the enrichment of property developers

I find it so laughable when I visit new lands and cafes don’t open til 9/10. Australia is a country of early birds, 90% of our coffee shops open at 6/7am and I love it. Experiencing major white girl culture shock rn 😫😫

I want a city on Mars and a robot butler. I want clean water, and at least two habitable planets. I want to see humanity flourish while preserving the Earth for generations to come.

Nobody wants a city on Mars. Nobody wants AI in every app. Nobody wants a robot butler. Nobody wants data centers everywhere. Nobody wants flying cars or humanoid robots. We want clean water, we want bees to survive, and we want a habitable planet.

I want a voice note ring I can say things into by easily pressing a button. When it syncs to phone I'd love an ai summary of what I've said, like to dos in one section, ideas in another. Anybody have rec for a product they've used that does this?

Somebody has to be the richest person on the planet. The fact that it’s the guy who popularized electric cars, made rockets reusable, and is working on curing blindness and paraplegia as a side quest seems fair to me.

Yes it is more complicated than an economics class, but Elon being worth 1 trillion means he has achieved this by creating and acquiring PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, X, Neuralink… All of these companies provide tremendous value to millions of people, which is why they’re valued so highly, and why he is therefore valued so highly Elon owning Tesla does not make other people poorer, he’s normalised electric cars, driven demand for electric cars which has spawned jobs around the world in infrastructure and construction. If Elon getting richer made people poorer, I would expect the average person to be poorer than the medieval times. Is that the case?

If you are to ask this lot of people who aced Economics 101 in school the answer would be ‘no one gets poorer’ due to the fact that wealth does not sit on a pie. The truth of the matter is that the world is far more complicated than Economics 101. Something you learn in Economics 102 if you stick around for long enough… On a worldwide scale over time the wealth gap continues to increase. It doesn’t matter that a few people became millionaires because of Elon becoming a trillionaire. Do we want to have a society that puts this much wealth into a few or one that tries to accommodate basic human needs for all. If you have one $1 you are significantly closer in wealth to Jeff Bezos than you are to Elon musk… That should say it all.

I think possibly the best thing about Elon Musk becoming a trillionaire is how angry it makes a bunch of losers who've never built a thing in their lives.

@KonstantinKisin What a despicable human you are. I know nothing about you but you’ve given me everything I need to know. You clearly care nothing for the care of human beings. When one gets wealthier another has to get poorer. Absolutely shameful statement.

The key to saving the environment is not looking backward, it’s moving forward. I realized this the first time I visited Italy twenty years ago. Everything was clean and green. The rivers sparkled. The lesson for me was obvious: the answer is not underdevelopment. The answer is progress. When China was poor, the air was so polluted that people could barely see the blue sky. Today, blue skies have returned to their cities. Development does not only create wealth, it also provides the resources needed to restore and protect the environment. Some environmentalists want us to preserve every aspect of our biodiversity, including the mosquitoes for example, so that researchers can fly in once every ten years from their universities (which build particle accelerators and billion-dollar laboratories with their pocket money), study our ecosystems, and count how many people died from dengue outbreaks. They want to buy our air through carbon credits. If carbon credits were such a great deal, they would be selling them to us, not the other way around. Cleaning every river, lake, and water source in El Salvador, and ensuring they remain clean and sparkling, would cost roughly $12 billion. Where is that money supposed to come from without economic development? Carbon credits? The path forward for our country is the path of Japan and Singapore, not the path of the Congo.

autonomous robot driving through the field at night. no chemicals. no pesticides. just UV light killing pathogens and pests while everyone sleeps. this is @tricrobotics. this is what chemical-free pest control looks like at scale.

almost everyone reads this list as wealth hoarded. it’s the opposite. each name here is a rounding error on the surplus they unleashed on to the world through both the peripheral individuals (employees, investors, etc) involved & the compounding value of their creation to society in general (which allows others to also pursue greatness).

A small ask for @elonmusk, from a small English family business. There's a handle, @MadeInEngland, dormant for ~14 years. It would mean the world for what we're building, a home for English makers. The official route is priced for companies rather larger than ours. Any chance?

About three hours ago I decided that my espresso machine should have a display. With a $50 controller, I now have a little device that lets me control my machine. If you have the opportunity, try talking to Claude about hardware. It's *much* cheaper and easier than you might think. Fable is amazing at it.
