Research day at the National Archives of Australia in Melbourne examining documents on Project HIBAL that have never been seen by the public. Hoping some light can be shed on the fate of HIBAL Flight 292 that was scheduled for launch on 5th April, 1966…one day prior to Westall.

#ufotwitter 🇦🇺 A while ago I posted that the US Air Attache, Australia (DATT/AIRA), Col Ray Carlson, might've known something of #westall. This appears more likely, with evidence from 1965 (a year earlier) showing that the DATT/AIRA did receive RAAF/Defence UFO reports.

Open Source Anomalous has recently received FOIA release of State Dept Airgram (78 STATE 232261, 9/13/78) which reveals U.S. procedures for crashed objects in foreign countries, tied to Project Moon Dust. Referencing 1973 guidance (Airgram A-6343), it shows tight control over "space object" recoveries, including possible UFOs. Key points: -Back-channel comms via Defense Attaches bypassed formal routes for covert ops. -State Dept acted as gatekeeper, controlling narratives around crashes. -Cleared personnel (science/defense attaches) ensured compartmentalized handling. -Vague wording & delayed ID created plausible deniability while intel teams probed objects.

What may well constitute evidence of the section highlighted by @seniortrender is that, from 1953 to at least 1971, Australia sent UFO reports to the US Air Attaché, Canberra. This is documented in multiple archived reports from Australia.
