@tubdev still a bug on our end - can you tell in your system process manager if it's the tui process or if it's the opencode process

@IamKyros69 love the energy, but this is a great way to make yourself depressed - trust me, i've been there by all means work hard, but you are a human being. make time for a social life, let yourself rest. you won't get what you want by torturing yourself

I’m done living average. Starting today, I’m entering WAR MODE: • No comfort • No social life • 14–15 hrs of code, every day Learning React Native. Building apps. Looking to connect with people on the same grind. No excuses. Just fire in my chest

@woiceatus @levelsio been seeing a lot of praise for codex/gpt5, i'll try it when i get back from holiday but is it really that much better than eg opencode with claude opus 4.1?

@tubdev @levelsio have you tried codex gpt5-high full agent mode, it changed my mind recently, better than cursor, really powerful coder, it's intermediate programmer at least, not junior now

genuinely insane how people just openly give way more charity and benefit of the doubt to arguments that reinforce their pre existing worldview with zero awareness or self critical instinct. your epistemics are so trash it's funny

@wanyeburkett impression *generic leftist take with dubious evidence* "it's just like, you know, this is obviously bullshit" *generic rightist take with dubious evidence* "clearly this is 100% true in all circumstances, here's some anecdotes from my life which prove it"

@coding_guille @htmx_org Not convinced. Every acolyte of "clean code" I've ever worked with has produced code that is buggier, more difficult to reason about, AND slower than other devs' - the inexperienced juniors tend to agree with me there, they just dont speak up for fear of looking dumb

@htmx_org I understand the crusade against clean code, and I think its right about many things, but mostly for expert devs. The majority of developers dont have that many years of experience, and I believe that in general clean code helps more than it harms the code they produce

htmx.org / CEO of FlatUI Delenda Est (same thing)
in defense of clean code (i code dirty, btw) a 25x perf improvement isn't necessarily worth it, depending on your apps overall architecture eg in a web app where you're perf-bound by network calls to a data store, a 25x CPU improvement may be entirely undetectable by end users

@wanyeburkett So you are in favour of vigilante justice and martial law as a de facto state of affairs if I'm reading this correctly? That is certainly one of the takes of all time

He was in pursuit! Thats not the proverbial “judge, jury, and executioner,” each of which implies a suspect who has been captured and can stand trial. In our culture we’ve decided that something magical happens the second you decide to run away, that the original crime has stopped occurring, and that we have transitioned into a new frame in which a totally different set of rules apply (mainly, that you have to let criminals get away). But this is actually pretty silly. The original crime is still in progress. The victim has given pursuit and we should want the criminals to be brought to justice, alive if possible, but dead if not.

Again, I would object to the phrase, “extrajudicial execution“ while making a sharp distinction between the murder of someone who has surrendered and a death caused while in pursuit
Billy Binion@billybinion

I hate this subtly deceptive framing so much. Two teens tried to break into his wife’s car. After he scared them off, he chased them in his vehicle & shot them, killing a 14-year old. We do not permit extrajudicial execution in this country.

@fearless_209 it sounds to me like you need some focus. those are all very different things which take time to show success. @levelsio spent YEARS just building apps that went nowhere until they started hitting. he didnt waste time trying to do dropshipping or trading

@carnutchronicle @tubdev @SamtheNightOwl @Allodoxaa if your books can really be “done” by AI then your business is rly simple and not relevant to this conversation. which is a good thing, good on you for having a cheap solution. But in my experience AI always fucks it up and a human has to do accounting cleanup at year-end anyway

Accounting, believe it or not. the underemployment rate is about as low as for mechanical engineering majors. everyone is scared off because they think it requires great math skill when it doesn't. everyone thinks AI will devour the field when it can't, either :)
cold 🥑@coldhealing

If you were advising a widely-talented 17yo today who wanted the safest path to the upper middle class what college major would you recommend? I genuinely don't know. The world is changing a lot. It's probably not computer science. Maybe it's mechanical engineering or math?

@carnutchronicle @SamtheNightOwl @Allodoxaa yeah if the job market changes i think this is what it looks like. not ai replacing anyone, but enabling higher productivity with the same headcount. it's up to the firms how they choose to take advantage. they can either reduce headcount or increase business volume

@tubdev @SamtheNightOwl @Allodoxaa I'm not sure what tools you are building (maybe the ones we use! 🤣) but my accountant had two jr accountants leave this year and didn't rehire anyone because AI tools have allowed her to take take on their jobs and speed her workload up. Books were done faster than ever!!!
