@TheFPLManual I was more so hinting at the pattern of ucl referees (and in some cases la liga referees) showing reluctance book certain important players. Yamal, fermin and raphinha (appreciate he’s injured), have all escaped multiple certain yellow, or even red, card situations recently

@uclfantasypod Don't be so bold, as the fantasy gods may reward you accordingly 😅 There is really no given on cards, however, the last Atleti vs. Barca game on Saturday was so physical, we got 8 yellows (10 if you add managers) So temper your expectations and pray luck prevails

Just a few hours to go before MD 13 kickoffs and here's my untouched team. The priority is to bring in at least two PSG attacking assets (ie. one of Dembele/Kvara and Vitinha). However, with five transfers, I'm not sure Kvaradona is worth the transfer as he is one yellow away from suspension Same logic applies to template pick, Mbappe, in fact Yamal, Fermin, VVD and Vini Jr could all miss the second leg with a yellow card and that could result to a hit when we get three transfers later Thus, as it stands, here are my possible transfer moves Semenyo --> Vitinha Gyokeres --> Dembele VVD --> Stanisic Hanko --> Cancelo The final transfer depends if I'm ready to ship out Alvarez for Harry Kane close to the deadline, when the official lineups are out. I presume it would be a high-scoring game between Bayern and Madrid over the two legs, so I don't mind double Bayern attack With only 5 Matchdays left, any decision taken could be make or break your rank, but we have very little room to experiment going forward as our #UCLFantasy teams start to look 90% similar. I'm currently 19 places of the Top 100, with 1084 points Therefore, captaincy picks are more crucial than ever. I'm still making up my mind on that but Vini Jr is likely my Tuesday captain while Ousmane Ballon d'Or stomps Liverpool on Wednesday and is a differential contender for the armband. In conclusion, I'm trying to balance template picks and possible differentials while anticipating a massive overperformance (xClutch) from the regular goal-getters in the knockout stage.

@fantasyfooty @jaderants Just to balance things… I’m equally as pissed by the films taking dobby’s achievements off him and giving them to people like Neville. Or the characterisation of Dumbledore in the Goblet of Fire.

@jaderants The issue isn't what Snape appeared like in the first film, it's how he's described (and the meaning behind it) in the books.

@PeterClarkeHH @fantasyfooty Thats what you want… perhaps not what the author wants. You cant have it both ways. Harry Potter seems to be a lesson on how to cope with death… hardly an escapism piece. The whole series is filled with awful people and tragedy.

I'm not against Snape being black in the new Harry Potter series. I'm not against it on principle. There are obviously some pretty awful things and memes being said/shared that are clearly just racist. But it isn't necessarily racist to be a bit annoyed the character has been changed from the book's description, because his appearance carries meaning. 1. Snape is specifically and deliberately described as having "sallow skin" and being "pale." It mirrors the same pale complexion Voldemort has, which is partly why Snape always feels suspicious. They're designed as visual inversions of each other: Snape has a big hooked nose, Voldemort has a flat snakelike one. The whole point of Snape is that he LOOKS like the villain. Everything about his physical description screams untrustworthy. That's Rowling's deliberate misdirection, teaching readers not to judge by appearances. Change the appearance, you risk losing the power of that twist. 2. There's also an irony nobody seems to be talking about. By making Snape the suspicious, untrustworthy, seemingly villainous character AND the only prominent black actor in the cast, you've actually created the exact optics you were presumably trying to avoid. The one black guy is the one everyone's supposed to distrust? How is that progressive? 3. People are making a false equivalence with Hermione being black in the Cursed Child. That's completely fine because the books never say she's white in the text, and it doesn't affect her story either way. Snape's appearance is different. It's written into the plot. 4. The writers now have a real issue down the line. How are they going to portray Snape being bullied when younger? How are they going to portray James Potter suspending Snape upside down with Levicorpus? Surely they aren't going to force racist undertones onto Lupin, Potter, Black and Pettigrew? PLEASE do not turn this into some politically driven TV series where the Marauders' cruelty becomes a racial storyline. That would ruin both Snape AND James.

@RSumm22 Oh my god. It’s called an allegory. Rowling was having a pop at nazi’s and racists by using magical blood mixing. It convolutes the message for the target audience… children. The audacity to call me dense you helmet

Blood mixing doesn't apply to RACE, you can't be this dense
UCL Fantasy Daniel@uclfantasypod

@fantasyfooty Brilliant points. There’s also the issue that slytherin does not want “blood mixing” and the death eaters are representations of a Nazi like group… which is very problematic. I think any character other than a slytherin/death eater could have been cast by a black actor

@PeterClarkeHH @fantasyfooty Because it blurs the subtext. It’s a fantasy series for children, and making political/social allegories should be simple and clearly defined. Surely if i’m overstepping, then so are the producers by making any changes from the source material?

@uclfantasypod @fantasyfooty Absolutely but in the fake wizarding world she does this through magic & no other device, what it mirrors in the real world is different but in the context of a made up world bound by her imagination & rules you’re over stepping implying a supposed dark wizard can’t be black 🤷🏻‍♂️

@PeterClarkeHH @fantasyfooty JK Rowling absolutely infers that the wizarding world’s view on “magic blood” is a direct allegory for racism, naziism and elitism. Subtext exists to make the world richer. It’s a disservice to the books to not make the overt link

@uclfantasypod @fantasyfooty You’re applying your own world view & slant to the narrative though on what you believe defines mixing blood when the author clearly sets the template that’s entirely about magic Sex, colour, religion & so on are never on the table in the context of the world built by the author

@PeterClarkeHH @fantasyfooty I was thinking more along the lines of Snape’s era though as not much is really said. It’s more of a slytherin in context with the death eaters than just a regular slytherin… appreciate my point didnt make that particularly clear

@uclfantasypod @fantasyfooty Blaise Zabini was a black Slytherin so I think you’ll find it’s purely about about magical blood in the context of the books

@Jake_armstrong9 Joelinton should be ashamed here. Bit of urgency to get across the pitch, into the pocket and he can receive a free pass. He’ll get pressed by the man in front of murphy and its a simple ball into him. We’d have murphy running at the defence with AG running behind. Great thread!

x.com/Burnerrrrr4191… Now as the half went on Sunderland became more and more passive OOP with the aim being to catch us on the counter as our rest defence weakens while we chase a goal. This example goes straight back to Gordon’s quote and where his frustration will be. This a second example I’ve shown in this thread of us failing to find the free man. This is poor from Burn. He had a few extra yards to bring that ball forward or I think that pass into Willock is more than on but instead he goes over the top to Osula in a 2v1 deficit? Same with Elanga he failed to spot the free man and we couldn’t hurt Sunderland defensively. 10/ #NUFC

The derby NUFC could not lose ends in defeat & it’s entirely deserved for SAFC. Home midfield on the missing list for too much of this game & defence too soft when they had to resist. Brian Brobbey the game’s best player by a distance. Newcastle took lead but never had control.

Eddie Howe coaches wins and manages losses. Not sure what he says to them at half time every single match. The players have absolutely no idea what to do in transition and are completely gutless out of possession. Get their wages donated to charity

He’s taken a lot of flak since joining Newcastle… In fact his move has been one of the most heavily criticised transfers of the entire season… But credit where it’s due… Anthony Elanga has been very, very good tonight.
