Leadership (or lack thereof) MATTERS.

Ironically our Superintendent in GA has been in office for ten years….what do you notice and wonder about GA during that time period?

Georgia’s current literacy problems are reflective of the poor implementation of our literacy legislation. We picked weak curricula.
We allowed too many options.
Training is inconsistent.
The screening → intervention pipeline is unclear. Meanwhile, states like TN & LA made bold, unified choices—and it’s paying off. Georgia’s kids deserve the same.

The more closely I look at these curriculum lists, the more baffled I become!! Georgia is no exception. I have so many genuine (and frustrated) questions about this chart, in particular:

@JW_edsolutions @MrZachG One of the few formal evaluations of MTSS in the US found that it actually made things worse in twice as many schools as it made things better: bit.ly/3Ja1ynN. My hunch is the crucial variable is the quality of teachers delivering Tier 2 and Tier 3.
