Visitors of the latest Centennial Museum event had a rare treat this week – a tour that ventured beyond the museum to UTEP's Biodiversity Collections. The excursion offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the space, where biodiversity collections manager Vicky Zhuang oversees thousands of preserved plant and animal specimens.

In El Paso, cases of Valley fever — a disease that can lead to serious respiratory illness or worse — have tripled in the past decade. Now, a new study by Dr. Gabriel Ibarra-Mejia from the UTEP College of Health Sciences (@utepchs), and colleagues in the College of Science, links the increase to extreme weather, wind and dust. This weekend UTEP faculty, staff and students participated in the city's largest science celebration — the El Paso Science Festival. The festival included more than 150 hands-on exhibits and science demonstrations, many spearheaded by UTEP scientists and engineers, such as geode cracking; artificial intelligence demonstrations; fossil excavations; a chemistry circus; and a robotics playground.
