@BenMcCombe @RadioFreeTom A preventative war was what the administration claimed but I don't believe for a minute they were concerned about preventing anything (especially in light of their position now). The real reason was a gamble for regime change.

Unless you're an brain-wormed partisan, "Iran is an evil regime," "this preventive war was stupid and should never have been launched," and "this peace deal is a US humiliation" are three perfectly true things you should be able to believe at the same time.

@sentdefender Vance opposed the war from the start. It's clownishly delusional to blame him after we've lost it.

@dangoldss @Timodc Progressives had nothing to do with Netanyahu's primal hatred of Obama.

@Timodc Multiple variables here - the Progressives have had a bee in their bonnet about Israel for the past decade, and 10/7 was like a gold rush for them. In parallel, Bibi’s relationship with Dems deteriorated and he did nothing to try to improve it. Instead he went all in on Trump.

What? Biden was about as good an ally to Bibi as he could plausibly hope given the Gaza tactics. Biden’s reward was being undermined at every turn & watching Bibi/allies support a corrupt insurrectionist over him rather than staying neutral. It was a choice, it’s backfiring spectacularly & deservedly imo.

Yglesias is a true master of sounding like a reasonable centrist while spewing mendacious vileness, to cover for malignant shitbags. It was not, in fact, pro-Israel groups who turned Israel into a polarized issue, but Prog allies. And they did it long before the war with Iran.

@GeraldoRivera We're not back where we started. Iran never had control of the strait and is about to get a huge infusion of cash.

Israel and the U.S. went for a kill shot against Iran. The odious Regime took a pounding and lost a generation of leadership, but survived. This peace deal at best brings us status quo ante. We’re back where we started on 28 February except a lot of people have died; a lot of stuff got blown up, and Israel is more isolated than ever. Maybe it was worth the shot, but there is no way to spin that into victory.

@DecodingFoxNews I agree that Iran/Contra was bad. But if you measure it in terms of the global harm it caused compared what would happen with the proposed $300 billion slush fund for Iran, it's just not in the same league.

@vidchor It’s just way off for him to reference Reagan. He shouldn’t have done that. Reagan illegally sold weapons to Iran while we officially supported the other side of the war.

@AGHamilton29 Needless to say, Kamala Harris wouldn't have drunk the Netanyahu Koolaid and started a war to begin with.

So they get to keep the nuclear program, the ballistic missile program, and funding for terror proxies. But they will pinky promise not to build a full nuke while getting billions of financial relief to fund all of that. Great deal. Should have had Kamala Harris negotiate it.
Open Source Intel@Osint613

Reporter: If Iran comes back after the signing of this and say they want to continue to have a civilian nuclear program, is that acceptable to you? Trump: It is a little hard though when you say that somebody wants to other people have it, other adjoining states have it and you're not letting them have it for purposes of electricity and things like that, it's always a little tough. You have to use a little common sense.

@TrumpDailyPosts @nextnews The pic of Obama reminds me that he never had to deal with a closed Strait of Hormuz. Didn't even have to mention it in the JCPOA.

@BriannaWu It doesn't matter what gets signed. The key thing that renders this a failure is that now Iran knows it can close the strait whenever it wants. That's an enormous point of leverage in some ways more powerful than having nuclear weapons. All from this war.

@RadioFreeTom Did the WSJ take down the link to the article? Can’t find it (for comment-viewing purposes), though I’d seen that post earlier…

The level of cope in the Trump-supporter responses to the WSJ article about The Bulwark is really something to behold.
