🚨As you watch World Cup matches in packed stadiums, remember that Israel turned Gaza’s football fields into detention camps—sites of abuse, rape, torture, and field executions. The game continues. Gaza’s genocide does too. #FIFAcom

This is very good. @NYCMayor referencing the great Doctor Socrates of Brazil and Democracia Corinthiana, where the players created their own democratic team system in protest at the brutal military junta ruling the country. One of the most important moments of football activism globally. It raises the question, where today’s great stars who fight for democracy, basic human rights, against conflict and war? As the game has become hyper-commercialised, and allied itself more closely with politicians, so too has the player voice been silenced.

I have fought the neocons and warmongers in Washington for more than 25 years. Throughout, they have tried to silence, discredit, slander, and cancel me. Only recently, however, have they tried to deport me. At least, that appears to have been the aim of a hit piece in Bari Weiss’s The Free Press, which claimed that Marco Rubio’s State Department was “investigating” me for allegedly seeking to “undermine the U.S.”—presumably because of my opposition to war with Iran. Yet just hours later, the State Department issued a statement to reporters clarifying that “the State Department has no plans to revoke the green card of Mr. Parsi at this time.” Nor did it provide any confirmation for the central premise of the Free Press story—that an investigation of me existed in the first place. So here’s what I think happened. Read the full piece on my Substack: tritaparsi.substack.com/p/so-they-trie…

Quick random Gwyneth Paltrow story. She has sent the same bouquet of condolence flowers every year to a friend of mine because of her father’s death. Her father isn’t dead. She’s been told this at least 6 times, but every April the flowers come, on her birthday. She has confused her birthday with her father’s supposed death & has done this for 20 years. And she’s met her father. Twice.

Gotta appreciate how Gwyneth Paltrow does something everybody hates and then lays low for a few years until everyone forgets only to come back and do something everyone hates even more

BREAKING: Justice Jeremy Johnson has ruled that the Filton 4 will be sentenced as terrorists – even though two juries refused to convict them of violence charges over their efforts to disable an Israeli factory in the UK making killer drones for use in Gaza. They were found guilty of a minor charge of criminal damage. Judge Johnson kept the jury in the dark of his plans to sentence the four as terrorists. This is the first time in British legal history that anyone has been sentenced as a terrorist for damaging property. It's a very dark moment in an increasingly authoritarian Britain. Thousands of legal professionals complained about Johnson's clear abuses of legal procedures to help the government's case for proscribing Palestine Action as a terrorist group. Johnson has now proved this was always a show trial. I explain how he rigged the two trials here: jonathancook.substack.com/p/legal-profes…

Anyone reading the press about Israeli daily mass terror killings of civilians in Palestine is aware that when they’re caught red-handed without any pretext they announce an official investigation. This has happened hundreds of times. And then, with very few exceptions, you never hear about the result of the inquiry. Where is the Israeli and U.S. media on this? Why don’t Israeli and U.S. reporters in the region systematically ask for an accounting of the Israeli military inquiries? -R

When Russia hosted the World Cup in 2018, it had to suspend normal visa rules for the tournament. Foreigners with tickets could enter visa-free, using a scheme called ‘Fan ID.’ Russia also had to do weird stuff to keep FIFA’s sponsors happy. For example, small shops near Fan Zones and stadiums could only sell Budweiser beer on match days. So yes, FIFA absolutely does dictate conditions to host governments when it suits FIFA. Infantino pretending otherwise is nonsense.
Eric Njiru ⚽️@EricNjiiru

Infantino was asked by a BBC journalist if he's embarrassed by what has come to pass and does he accept he's lost control of his tournament here. His response: “in 2035, the Women’s World Cup, I think, will be in the UK. Would you find it normal that FIFA will dictate to the British government who to let in the country and who not to let in?” #FIFAWorldCup

Video from a court in Jerusalem shows Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya appearing by video link and attempting to speak with his lawyer before Israeli court security blocked the screen and cut the connection, preventing journalists from filming. His attorney repeatedly told the court he could neither see nor hear Abu Safiya after the video feed was cut, saying his captors had “turned off the camera,” further fueling concerns over the imprisoned Gaza doctor’s treatment after he appeared emaciated and bore apparent signs of physical abuse.
Mosab Abu Toha@MosabAbuToha

Just in: A video from inside a court in occupied Jerusalem shows Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya appearing via video link and attempting to speak with his attorney before Israeli court security blocked the screen and terminated the call, preventing journalists from filming the exchange or the video appearance. I listened carefully to what the attorney was saying to Dr. Abu Safiya. It appeared that Dr. Abu Safiya could not hear him. The attorney repeatedly stated that he could neither see nor hear Dr. Abu Safiya after his “captors turned off the camera.” He also informed him that some people were present in the courtroom to show their support and that they were waiting for the judge to arrive so that he could be brought back on screen before the court addressed the appeal. This is Israel’s democracy. Dr. Abu Safiya has been subjected to starvation, abuse, and cruel torture, and this latest development only adds to concerns about the conditions he has endured and the lack of public scrutiny surrounding his case.

This is a racist pogrom. People forced out of their homes because of the colour of their skin. Tommy Robinson and Conor McGregor will be delighted. The trade union movement must take the lead in mobilising working class communities against those that would destroy them.
